Cannot add google WiFi point to mesh

Auhallet

I have been having issues with my WiFi recently (could be ISP related) so I decided to factory reset my network which consists of 3 google Wi-Fi points (Gen 1)

I have hard reset each WiFi point, and I have been able to set up the primary point which is connected to my modem and my google home account. I am able to access internet just fine from this point.

Now I am attempting to add the additional WiFi points to the mesh but I am getting connection errors. Here are the sequence of events.

1) reset WiFi point by holding the setup button whilst plugging in power.

2) once reset has been completed, open google home and add device

3) device found

4) scan QR code on device

5) connect to the devices ‘setup’ network

6) “Connection failed. Couldn’t connect to device. Try again or tap get help for solutions”

I have tried over and over and over but I cannot get this device to connect. Multiple factory resets and nothing…. PLEASE HELP

I was eventually able to solve the issue. Here’s how:

it seemed the issue was connecting to the internet, so rather than placing the second and third point at their intended location, I simply wired them to the first WORKING point. This allowed the device to connect and the setup process to complete. I then unplugged this device, moved to intended location and repeated for the 3rd node.

from there, the devices have worked flawlessly.

I had the same issue..delete and re-download the Google home app. You might have inadvertently blocked some permissions that allowed the app to link to the nest during setup.

How does this work ? I have tried deleted and re-download yet this then reload all the configure from Cloud again so the error stays.

I have had the same: want to add 3 x Google wifi to existing network. 2x it worked (after some factory resetting). The last unit did not connect: "Something went wrong" try restarting Wifi point again" when adding Wifi point to the Wifi network.  Temporary network keeps taking over from the standard network and the connection is not completed

having same issue.   initially had all points connected and bought an additional point.  In the process of trying to connect it I would continually get cant connect or not connected to internet when trying to add a point.   eventually did factory reset and added main point in and it connected fine but still cannot connect any of my mesh points..I get a cannot connect each time when it tried to connect to the point via wifi..says it is not connected to internet but the primary point is connected fine.

Thanks. I have tried this but it didn't work for me.

However, I have found information from other posts and know what is happening here. My current two points are US version where my 3rd new point is made for Australia & New Zealand

One of the other posts here says this doesn't work :

Mixing equipment made for different regions/ countries does not work due to differences in Wi-Fi regulations. See for instance:

This is hard coded into the units and can't be changed, not by us consumers anyways. Best you can do is to sell the UK units to UK people, and buy US units.

good idea, I was also able to resolve my issue after much troubleshooting and had thought about daisy chaining the 2nd, 3rd devices to the first but (and I forgot to mention in my earlier post, I was trying to do this from my iphone)  I pulled out an old android phone and connected it to wifi to my first point and installed google home on the android and it let me work through adding the additional points as I had expected.   My hunch is the switching from the subsequent points and back to wifi was different on my iphone vs the old android phone.    at least we have a couple of ways to resolve but I spent hours working through all of this and was almost ready to give up when I posted.
