Cannot get Google Wifi to connect to internet

Some history...

I bought a three node Google Wifi setup a few years ago. I set it up with my cable internet and it worked fine for some time. "Fine" is relative. Occasionally internet would stop working. I don't know it is was the provider, the cable modem, or the Google Wifi network, but it would happen randomly. Things would be fine for a week, then just fail. Cycling the power on the power supply I was using for the main Wifi box and the modem would fix things.

Yesterday it happened and nothing was working. I even unplugged everything (all three boxes) and had the ISP send a reset signal to the modem. I decided to try the next step and I factory reset all three Google Wifi boxes. Now I am trying to set up the network and I am getting nowhere.

The only Google Wifi box powered is the one connected to my modem. The modem is working fine and providing internet via ethernet to this computer. The same modem is connected to the Google Wifi box but the wifi is not connecting to internet. I have gone through the process in the Google Home app multiple times (unplug modem, wait two minutes, plug in modem, wait one minute, plug in Wifi). Nothing is working. I have tried this with two different Wifi boxes.

At the moment I have three very expensive paperweights not providing any wifi. Google support does not seem to exist. I was abandoned during a chat and their call me feature does not work.

Solved. I was able to get a helpful and patient tech to walk me through setup. It was a lot more steps than the app uses.

Hey, Leftnotracks.

Thanks for letting us know you got this sorted out. Before I mark this as resolved, is there anything else you might need?

Thanks.

Do you remember the steps? I’ve been trying all day and no luck. I spoke with a very unhelpful Google employee who couldn’t seem to get out of the script loop he was reading from-the same steps Google Home gave me 😞

Hi Jeff,

I am experiencing identical issue as described by Leftnotracks. I have also attempted recommended steps. Unfortunately, I couldn’t get to Google Nest Wi-Fi to connect to internet. Support from Google Nest Wi-Fi team would be greatly appreciated!

My setup: Cable internet through Cisco modem, then ethernet to computer and wifi. At the time my computer was connected to internet via the ethernet cable from the modem. But the Google Home app would not recognise internet on the wifi box. I was prompted to unplug both devices, wait, plug them in, wait, then try again. But it never worked.

As far as I remember there was only one difference between that and what the technician had me do. I unscrewed the coaxial cable from the modem as well as unplugging it. I left them that way for five minutes, then connected power to the modem, then reconnected the cable. I also used the settings app on my phone to connect to the Google Wifi network before using the Home app. I guess one or both of those made the difference.

Thanks again for sharing the steps, Leftnotracks.

Since we got this resolved for the original poster, I'm going to go ahead and mark this as resolved. For those needing additional support, please feel free to open up a new discussion.

Thanks.
