Cannot get my Honeywell Thermostats to connect to my new Google Nest Wifi Router / AP

I just replaced my rented Spectrum WIFi Router with a Google Nest Router and Point.  I have been able to get every other device connected without issue, but my Honeywell Thermostats which work fine on my old router, consistently fail to connect to this one.  Their help desk is instructing me to separate the 2G and 5G networks so I can be certain I am connecting to the 2G.  I don’t think this is possible on this device?  I did try getting the router as far from the thermostat as I can, but the thermostat is about the only device I have that cannot really move about….. an I don’t have an Ethernet cable long enough to get really distant.   Any suggestions?  Any way to actually get into this thing and separate the 5G and 2G?

Hey there PeteB,

I can definitely understand the confusion when it comes to thermostat issues as it can be very odd to figure out sometimes, but I'm happy to look into this for you.

First off, I would suggest using the Compatibility Checker to see if your system is compatible. Then, if it is, I would suggest contacting a pro to come out to help you with this since we are not able to view your wiring configuration and don't know what your wifi network is like.

Please let me know if you have any further questions or concerns as I'm happy to help.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

I did see the relply, but it seemed completely generic and hot at all helpful.  I expected more from Google to be honest.  The compatibility checker is for. Nest thermostat.  I do not have that.  I have Honeywell.  THe Nest product I have is the mesh WiFi router.  I am asking if there is any way to split the 2G and 5G so I can get a few IOT devices connected. Things like thermostats and doorbells are not easy to move far from the router and cable modem so that only the 2G can reach them…. I was able to do that with smart plugs, etc.  These are stationary devices.

Hi PeteB,

Sorry to hear that my answer wasn't very helpful, I must've been mistaken, as I thought you had a Nest Thermostat. So you are needing some help with getting your wifi connection to your Honeywell Thermostat is that correct?

Sorry for my confusion, but please let me know if I have that correct now.

Best regards,
