Google Nest router won't go to setup mode after factory reset

Hi guys

My Google Nest router won't go to setup mode after i had factory reset it.

The network was all crazy so i did a factory reset, first the router kept coming "online" on my wifi list via the old wifi network name, even thou i had just reset it! I could not connect to it thou. Then after factory resetting the router about 3 times with the button at the buttom i won't go to setup mode anymore.

It does the factory reset cycle but when (all the videos on youtube) says it should to go setup mode (blinking white light) i does not. It simply goes to a solid white, saying everything is ok, even thou i can't connect to it, or see it on my wifi network list. It somehow skipping the setup and "thinks" it's setup or something.

Anyone had the same issue and got it fixed?

Thanks Jimmi

Sooo.... about 5min ago it wen't to Setup mode and i could see it on the Home app, but now i can't get it to save my settings.

I dit a + new device, i could see the router, i chose it, connected to it, renamed the wifi, set password, but when it said, looking for update, and saving your wifi-settings it fails. I have internet from the router if is connecto to the factory wifi nave (setup.now.070 something).

Why can't it save my settings?

Hi folks,

Thanks for reaching out. I'm sorry to hear that you're having issues with resetting your Google Wifi and setting it up again. To isolate the issue, could you also try to reset your Google Wifi network from the the app?

Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward

I actually startet my reset process by doing it from the app, i diden't mentioned it, because i saw the press buttom factory reset as a more reliable method to reset the router. I can exclude my modem being the problem, because i have tried a TP link Deco M9 mesh system, and that worked perfectly without me doing anything to my modem.

Thanks jimmi

Hi Jimmi,

Thanks for the response. I'd love to know more about this. What device are you using to set it up? Is it an Android phone or an iPhone? Also, if you're using VPN, let's try disabling it before setting up your Google Wifi.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi Edward

I have tried both a iphone and an ipad, and no VPN.

Hi Jimmi,

Thanks for the response. Could you also check if local network is enabled for the Google Home app? You could find this by going to your phone's Settings > Privacy > Local network.

Thanks,

Edward

Hi guys

Sorry for the late replay, i ended RMA the nest and i got a replacement a few days later. The store where i bought the nest said thay could not get it to go pass the setup point either, so it must have been a firmware hardware issue.

Thanks for your help anyway.

Jimmi

I'm happy you were able to get a replacement, Jimmi.  Thanks for the heads up on that. Sorry it was such a runaround to get things sorted out.

Before I mark this as resolved, is there anything else you might need?

Thanks,

Jeff

Yes, have recently hit this exact same issue. Noticed all my macOS devices would show the SSID network name assigned to it, but it would then ghost away once selected, which was the origin for starting to see what was going wrong. Went down the soft restart path to begin with from the Google Home app, got no joy, did a factory reset using router button and hit the same issue as you.
