Google Router as a Access Point

mshepard

I have three Google AC2000.  When I try to add a point it recognizes the second as a router and sets up another network.  No option is given to make it a point.  Obviously, I get an error that it couldn’t connect to network since I don’t have the second connected to Ethernet since the first is the primary router.  Any ideas how to force Google Home App to determine it is to be used as a point and not router?

Finally figured something out. My routers would not mesh. I brought them right next to each other and the main point- (saw on YouTube) and nothing worked. Finally I connected main router to secondary router via Ethernet cable and finally they meshed. Disconnected Ethernet from secondary router and it maintained the mesh wirelessly. I did the same with the tertiary router. Now they are all talking. Seems weird I had to physically connect them to synch up- but it worked!

That's great news, Smudgeysmurf. I'm happy to hear you got that worked out and thanks for sharing your process with us.

mshepard, have you tried the process Smudgeysmurf went through? Could you give that a try and see if it improves things for you?

Thanks,

Jeff

Following. I can’t get my routers to mesh at all.

Hey folks,

Thanks for posting ― let's get this sorted out.

A few questions: what is the color of the LED on your Google Wifi point? How far is the point from the main point?

Make sure that you select the same home as the main point during the setup process so the Home app assigns the point into the current network.

Best,

Mel

I finally was able to try setting up by connecting router to intended router to be used as a wifi point.  It will appear it is setting up a new wifi mesh, but will recognize it later to be used as a point
