Hi all,
Like the title, says, my 500/500 Fiber Internet is getting throttled by the Google WiFi mesh system to about 100/100 or 90/90 -- all wired connections and wireless connections are affected.
Interestingly, the Home app speed tests all show the correct speeds, usually around 485/490 which is correct. But a speed test with the puck wired directly to my PC is showing the throttled 90/90 or 100/100 speeds.
A network restart (Google WiFi puck restart) initiated through the Home app fixes the problem temporarily. All devices then get the correct speeds, wired and wireless. Unfortunately, a day or max 2 days later, the same thing happens again - throttled speeds down to 100/100. Tried my other router, no issues. Tried directly from the ONT, no issue.
This is not a DNS issue or anything like that, it seems like a strange software issue. What can be done? Is there a fix in place?

Just wanted to share that I have the same issue since I got my brand new Google Wifi on December 29th. Worked at the correct speeds for 2 days and then has been throttled to 90 mbps ever since
01-27-2022 11:28 AM
My issue is similar but not the same, my Samsung Fold 3 randomly gets throttled to slow speeds, my home internet is 200 mbps down but I can see as little as 2-3 mbps, I tried restarting the phone and it does nothing but the second I reset the wifi through the google home app, it jumps right back to 200mbps, it effects other devices too but not too as high of a degree...this is happening on a Gen 2 unit which has worked perfectly for about a year and this started occurring the last couple months where I would reset my Google Next every few weeks, now it doesnt last a full day before I need to reset it.

actual real time usage from gen 2 nest wifi. I bought these a while ago. I'm currently experiencing a lot of dropped internet during gaming even with priority set. I'm about to drop the wifi system for a nighthawk if the problem isn't fixed soon.

Same thing for 4 or 5 months now, 1 GB bandwidth throttled to 90, sometimes a software reboot in home app fixes, mostly not. Sometimes power unplug fixes, mostly doesn't. Ready to toss in the trash and get Xfi pods, about done buying Google hardware products
03-13-2022 09:12 PM
Same issue here. 350mbps connection id throttled down to 90 MBPS upload. I am getting 350 mbps download though. I got a replacement router from Google today. Still the same issue.

Seeing exactly the same issue.... I have fibre to the house.

RESOLVED:
After owning the Nest WiFi for two years, I upgraded my cable internet from 100/10 to 200/10. However, I experienced Nest WiFI throttling to 125/10 on both WiFi and the Nest Ethernet Port. I then ran the built-in speed test in the Google Home App (WiFi Page) which returned 220 /10. Now performance is 220/10 on both WiFi and the Nest Ethernet Port.
04-11-2022 01:45 PM
dude this just worked for me too, after the speedtest inside the google home app, everything went back to normal. Let me know if yours stays that way,,
04-11-2022 07:21 PM
It did temporarily but reverted back to the slow speeds.
Seemed to only really throttle my upload speed.
I did try my wifi speeds using ookla, quite frankly they were about the same just using the gateway vs Google nest for the download and better for the upload so I'm just using that for the time being.
Rumors of a new google wifi unit coming out soon, I'm guessing they're giving up on this one.
04-12-2022 08:09 AM
same here, this is so frustrating
04-12-2022 05:21 PM
My performance has been rock steady since above. Still 220/10.
04-11-2022 10:24 AM
I'm having the exact same issue since getting AT&T gigabit service 3 days ago.
Set their gateway up for passthrough and turned off it's wifi.
The gateway itself was getting fantastic speed, but the upload speed in the nest wifi showed about an 85% decrease (the download wasn't bad).

So this was what was happening all along, many calls to the ISP, switching all cables to/from the router to cat6a, trying in all ways possible to make it work and it was always blocked at 550mbps in google home speed test and on ethernet to 450. To top it all of I get on top the speed throttle over ethernet to something as low as 10mbps. Should I plug the cable from the router directly into my PC I get over 910mbp/s. And all of this before one of the pucks that was shipped was defective, spent days with google support trying to reset it in all ways then they shipped a new one and now this. What a piece of garbage, stick to software Google hardware is clearly not your thing. Time to switch routers and sell these or bash them with a hammer if nobody wants this trash
06-10-2022 05:01 PM
So... has anybody been able to resolve this?
06-11-2022 09:22 AM
After the update, I went up to expected ISP speeds. So all good here.
06-10-2022 05:05 PM
Unfortunately I gave up on waiting for Google to respond. I bought a 3 pack of Deco routers and now I'm getting more consistent speeds 600 mbs download 700 mbs upload when I'm closest to the access point
06-11-2022 02:50 AM
Exactly the same! Bought a 2-pack Deco myself and speed on ethernet jumped from 450mbps to 860mbps instantly. Off to sale or to the trash with the google ones
07-17-2022 12:11 PM
I'm getting to the same point, which really sucks. Any reccos for the best Deco option? My house is only about 2,000 square feet (although 2,600 and three floors with the basement).
09-14-2022 03:59 PM
Ya I've tested this inside and out and I am 100% positive at this point is a defective hardware. Something they did in this last firmware that was supposed to 'fix' some units ended up breaking all the others that were working. I literally get throttled all the way down to les than Mb down and up through the router at points , where my ookla speedtest shows the ISP is still pushing over 900Mbs up and down to my house. It's the routers and they're hot garbage. Can't believe they are so silent.
10-19-2022 04:42 PM
Did you trash/sell your points? I'm experimenting with some ROM's and could use a couple.
06-10-2022 10:56 PM
I've just switched my provider from Rogers to Bell(Canada), and the exact same issue wirh you is happening. I guess it's something to do with fiber optics technology??? Because when I was with Rogers, it never was an issue...
Although Rogers had much lower upload speed(50) but had about 700mbps download which worked great...I mean,,, sometimes it slowed down to like,,,350mbps...but nothing compare to what I get now... now I'm getting freaking 50mbps up/down... don't know what to do... probably I'll switch back if this issue isn't resolved anytime soon.
06-11-2022 02:53 AM
So apparently this wasn’t my issue, through a long process I was able to realize the cause of my network issues was my 1 Gigabit Network switch. I think it was thermal throttling
06-11-2022 02:24 PM
So did you resolve it somehow?
06-12-2022 09:21 PM
I mean I unplugged it for like ½ an hour and plugged it back in; I ran sustained speed tests on the network for like 6 hours sustained (totaling like to ~1200 GB up and down iirc) without issues. I also took it out of the enclosed stand it was in.
But to clarify the issue I was having seemed to be different from the issue of the other people in the thread. It wasn't caused by the Google Wifi, but rather my network switch downstream of it.
Hope that helps!
Nithin

How is this not fixed yet Google? This has been going on for far too long.
I spent a lot of money to replace my existing router with a Google Nest Mesh Router and 2 AP's only to find that I wasn't getting the internet speeds that I was paying for. I thought it was the ISP so I called them first.
After connecting my laptop directly to the NTU and logging in with my PPOE details I did another speed test only to find that I was getting the approximately 100Mbps speeds that I was paying for.
This left the only other device in the network chain, My Google Nest Router.
I spent a long time looking for a solution, turning on the game and streaming mode on but still not being able to get more than 60% of my actual speed.
The only thing that the Google Home update did was allow me to Prioritise 1 device for up to 8 hours.
I am a gamer and so is the rest of my family.
Why is it that I can't permanently prioritise devices like a normal router?
Why can I not prioritise more than 1 device at a time? I need to prioritise at least 3 (1 for each console/PC)
If you added this feature to the Google Home App I would be happy instead of being immensely disappointed in one of my favourite Network/Phone/Software companies.
Even being able to adjust the throttling from the current 60% to perhaps 70% or 80% etc.
Pull your finger out Google! It's not like you don't have the money or resources to make this happen, cause if you don't, I'm ripping this out and putting something else in. I work in IT and I will be telling EVERYONE to never purchase Google Network equipment
For the price I paid I'm sure I could get a nice Wifi 6 setup.
07-03-2022 07:31 PM
I too seemed to be plagued with this as well. I have a Gen 1 google wifi setup, with 3 points. All running 14150.43.81
My devices are all running speeds slower than what is reported at the router and they are running wired.
My issues all seemed to correspond with the timeline others are having. Not having proper QoS control is infuriating. Moving over to Ubiquiti as soon as I can. Tin Foil Hat in me suggests Google want out of the wifi space and are making their units under perform so people get fed up and change. All signs point to firmware rollout that's done this to peoples units. Looking for a solution that doesn't involve daily running of speed tests and restarting network.

I had same issue with my ATT Fiber connection. Was using passthrough option off ATT gateway so I did not have to use ATT wifi. Connected my Nest Google wifi directly to ATT gateway, would get 1 gig for first hour or so and then it would throttle connection to Google wifi to 90/90. Switched my ISP to Spectrum and have 200MB service, now I get full 200+ MB on my Nest Google wifi devices and connected devices. ATT showed they had an updated gateway model and I tried to get one of those but they were not available. I was hoping the new gateway model may fix the bandwidth limit issue. Seemed like the issue was with the negotiation speed between ATT gateway and Nest Google wifi router but I could not find settings on either device to try to tweak those settings. Looking at other comments I wonder if other ISPs providing fiber are using the same gateway model as ATT and its a fiber gateway issue.
07-11-2022 07:55 AM
I have the updated gateway, still have the same issue. I haven't tried since the last nest mesh update though but since I've seen comments from others the same issue persists, I haven't tried.
I used to have Spectrum, I believe the 400/20 plan, it seemed to work. I wonder if it's just a higher speed problem with these.
07-13-2022 07:26 AM
My guess is one interface is set to auto-negotiate and the other is not. The fact that its possible to see the full 1GB speed for a limited time makes it feel like the interface connect at top speed, go through negotiation and since they are not set the same the connection gets knocked down to 100mb. Finding anyone in ATT or Google who would be able to drill down to the interface settings and check would be like winning the lottery!

having same internet speed issue, my internet speed got half sometime early last year but didn't care as our family members are not heavy internet users, then for 1/3 speed from early this year. When I use the direct ethernet cable to my PC I get almost full speed I am paying for
07-27-2022 02:53 PM
Same issue for me. I have am supposed to get 1gb downloads but everything is throttled down to below 100mbs. Definitely a google issue as switching to another brand of router fixes the problem. Extremely frustrating
09-05-2022 08:48 PM
same issue. 200up/down drop to about 90up/20down. hard reset only fix it for a day max. any solution to this?
I am about to jump ship to deco also.

Hey MrEvil,
I wanted to let you know that we have a new firmware release coming out now that should improve performance of the mesh network. You don't need to do anything to receive it, it will download and install automatically. Let's keep an eye on things and see if that update improves things for you. Let m know if you have any questions about the update.
Thanks,
Jeff
