Google Wifi Limiting Download Speed

Miguel_Sanchez

I have Bell Canada internet service, 1Gbps download and upload speeds, and I find my Google Wifi isn’t outputting the full speed for some reason. I have the Google Wifi router connected to the Bell router via CAT6 Ethernet cable.

When I run the speed test using the Google Home/Wifi app, I usually get 550Mbps download speed and 850Mbps upload speed. If I connect my laptop directly to the Bell router via CAT6 Ethernet and run a speed test, I get about 950Mbps download and upload speeds. To me this shows that the speed coming from my Bell router is perfect, but the Google Wifi isn’t outputting the same speed. If I connect my laptop to the Google Wi-Fi router via CAT6 Ethernet and run a speed test, I get the same 550Mbps download and 850Mbps upload speeds.

Does anybody know what could be the problem? Is there some setting on my Bell router or Google Wifi I need to adjust to get the full 950Mbps?

This seems to be a known issue. You are probably not doing anything wrong on your end with your setup. I am experiencing this as well intermittently, as are many others.

See this other thread for info (with several other threads rolled up into it, dating back ~3 months)...apparently team is working on a fix but the issue has been hard to nail down.

Some workarounds from the other thread included adjusting device priority settings and priority activity settings (didn't work for me) and unplugging the Google WiFi router to allow it to reset (did work for me, temporarily, but I have to repeat every couple days when the issue reoccurs).

Hi, everyone.
As we haven't had any activity here recently I'm going to go ahead and close the thread. If you have more to add, feel free to start a new discussion.
Thanks
