Google Wifi pairing codes incompatible with manual pairing on Google home app

Matter pairing codes are 11 or 21 characters long. I’ve lost the QR sticker to add a Google wifi node to my mesh network and it’s impossible to enter the 8 digit pairing code on the device in the app manually.

The app also never finds the device if you search manually.

Hi @yksal

Google Wifi itself can't be setup using matter. Try these steps:

  1. Connect the Wifi point to power and wait for it's light to be pulsing blue (ready for setup).
  2. In the Google Home app, tap the + icon at the top right and select 'Device'.
  3. On the next screen tap 'Search for device' not 'Scan QR code'.
  4. Select your home and tap 'Next'.
  5. The app will search for devices and should find your device.
  6. When prompted to scan the QR code, tap 'Continue without scanning', then enter the setup key on the bottom of the device.

So you can’t pair hardware manually via the pairing code?

when I try to add manually the app searches and finds some chromecast devices and when I tap “add a different device” and select Google wifi node from the list it searches, then returns to the list, rinse, repeat.

You can add devices manually but the app must be able to find it first.

Have you tried factory resetting the device using it's physical reset button?

I see you selected iOS as your phone or tablet, so it's also worth bearing in mind the iOS specific guidance here:
