Mercator Ikuu smart fans break my wifi mesh Nd all connections drop off

I've bought Mercator Ikuu smart fans.

When I try to pair a ceiling fan they won't pair and immediately my phone (pixel 4), and soon after my wife's phone (pixel 5) then laptops and then nest nodes all lose connection and can't connect to the network.

I have to cut the power to the fan to recover my meshed network and eventually connect phones, laptops etc.

My Chromecast oddly enough seems to not be effected.

The pairing must be performed by the Mercator app, but it's pretty weird that the wifi network starts to lock out other devices once the fan enters pairing mode...

I have spent time searching and have not found a solution at all yet...

Thanks for explaining the fix, mrcrinkles. That's certainly a big workaround to get things fixed, but it's definitely clever.

Before I mark this as resolved, is there anything else you might need?

Hey, mrcrinkles.
Sorry for the late response here, but I wanted to check in to see if you were still having this issue and to see if you have done any troubleshooting so far that has shown any sort of result. If you still need help, let me know and I'll be happy to work on this with you.
Thanks.

The solution was tricky.

The fans will only connect to certain wifi speeds. The Google nest wifi devices do not let you specify which wifi speeds different devices connect at. So, for instance my phone and app would never detect the fan.

To solve this I had to use an old phone as a hot spot. Give it the same name and login passwords as my nesy wifi and do the pairing there. Once done, I could turn the nest wifi back on and turn the old hotspot off and the fan could only then get the login credentials for the nest wifi.

So, all sorted but a real pain in the butt.

Not sure why attempting pairing without doing this was crashing the wifi mesh... But there it is.

Been working fine for months now without issue
