Mesh Wi-Fi not connecting, router not updating.

just bought a Google hub max, with Nest Wi-Fi mesh router and point.  It’s all set up and seems to be working.  Says network is online and Wi-Fi points are connected but they won’t connect to a mesh network.  When I run the mesh test it just stays on the ‘Testing Mesh Connection’ screen and doesn’t do anything.  Also on the Home App it says Finish Setup on the router but when I click that it says Checking for Update and just stays on that screen.  I’ve reset, unplugged, started from scratch again but still it didn’t update or connect mesh.  It’s plugged into an EE Smart Hub.  I was told to get a modem so bought an Openreach one but it doesn’t even connect to the internet using that!  Any ideas?
