It should connect. But then it will randomly disconnect throughout the day. Sometimes it will only be a few minutes and others it will be for fifteen to twenty minutes. Google knows about this and has been "working to fix it" since at least September with no actual progress.

Hi, pamelagarrett19.
I just wanted to jump in real fast to see if you saw Robert1480's reply and to see if you still needed some help on this or if you were able to get it sorted out. If you are still needing some help, just let us know and we'll be happy to continue helping.
Thanks.

Hi, everyone.
Just one quick final check in here since activity has slowed down. We'll be locking the thread in the next 24 hours, but if you still need help, I would be happy to keep it open. If there's more we can do, just let me know.
Thanks.

Are you going to post an update on the main thread (https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Nest-Wifi/Nest-wifi-randomly-going-offline/td-p/8199) that Google is aware of the problem and looking into it?
Just kidding. I know you did that a few weeks ago and will do it again in March.
At this point, should I just toss the box? I've replaced the Google system with Netgear, but was hoping to gift a functioning system to my son.

Hey, Robert1480.
The link you shared appears to be a separate issue with network disconnects. The original poster is talking about a device having connection issues, but they have not returned. While I'm sorry that you are still frustrated by another issue, it does not pertain to the problem in this thread. With this thread having gone inactive, I'll go ahead and lock this up, but feel free to continue to discuss the disconnect issue in relevant threads. I am still holding out for more information on a fix as well.
pamelagarrett19, if you need anything else or are still having issues with this, please feel free to open up a new thread when you are ready to try some troubleshooting steps.
Thanks.
