My WIFI connection point is asking me to first connect to "my home" which I am already connected to.

Do you know if there is a simple overview of how Google Nest works? (What is the function of the Google home account? How does it communicate with the mesh points? What is the overall infrastructure?

My Google nest suddenly stopped working, so I had to reset everything and start over. Finally it acknowledges the "Family Room WiFi" which is the router.
Then I tried to add WiFi point in another room. Every thing seems to work fine until it gets to the connect to WIFI. At this point I get the message: "Please connect to "my home". you are currently not on the same WI-FI network as your device. Please connect to the appropriate Wi-Fi network!"
It is hard to trouble shoot not knowing the basic overview and how they connect to each other.
  • Why is the WiFi point think it is on a different network? How does it determine that? What is looking for?
  • When I had to reset the router and start again, what changed?
  • How do I clear the memory of the WIFI point?
  • I deleted the home and created a new home, but it did not clear the memory.

The help center recommends different steps without explaining why. It is important to know why we should take the step and what we are trying to achieve by it. That way, we can try to trouble shoot.

Just following the steps blindly and not knowing why we do it and what to expect is not helpful.

I need a simple overview of how it works, how does it connect to Google home? How does it communicate with the Wifi point? What is looking for? What is the overall infrastructure?

Is there such a thing? Does anyone know?

All of the devices in your Wifi network need to be associated with the same account and "home" or "room" in the Google Home app. Sounds like something hasn't gone quite right there and one or more of your devices are not in the right state to communicate properly with each other. I'd recommend resetting your router and all points to start fresh. You can do that by selecting Wi-Fi > Settings > Factory reset network > OK. That said, if some of your devices are not in the app, you will need to reset those using their physical reset button as well.

As for different reset steps, this help article explains resetting using the app vs the reset button on the device:

It's recommended that you use the app to reset your devices wherever possible and only use the factory reset button on the device if they aren't accessible in the app for whatever reason. That's because if you use the factory reset button on the device itself, your device(s) and network still appear in the app.

Thank you David, I tried for over 4 days and finally it worked.

Based on what you said, it looks like when I followed the instructions previously given to do a hard reset from the unit itself, it kept all the information on Google home and it did not allow me to move forward. So, after multiple tries, I am guessing somehow I cleared the memory in Google home and so I was able to restart everything successfully.

There should be a simple overview of how it works, what is the purpose for Google home, purpose for the associated email so people can actually trouble shoot logically when possible. However, there are just random suggestions that hopefully if you follow them they may eventually work or you can easily complicate a simple issue and never get it to work.

Thank you again and I appreciate your input.
