Hi clharn,

That certainly isn’t the experience we want you to have, and we apologize for the delay. A few questions: are you using a modem/router combo from your Internet service provider (ISP)? Which Google/Nest router are we working with? What device are you using to set up your network (iOS or Android)? Do you have the Internet on your modem?

It can be a concern when your Nest Wifi point gets stuck during the setup process, especially when it seems close to completion. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can try to resolve the "times out when collecting final bits" error:

Basic Checks:

You can do a sequential reboot of your entire network and see if that helps, or please perform a 2-minute power cycle on your entire network to re-establish the connection on your connected devices. Here's how:

  1. Disconnect the power from the modem.
  2. Disconnect the Ethernet cable and power cord from the parent point.
  3. Disconnect the power cord from the child points.
  4. Leave everything unplugged for 2 minutes.
  5. Connect the power cord to the modem then to your router and points.

Ensure your phone or device you're using for setup is connected to the temporary Wi-Fi network created by the Nest Wifi point during the process. Verify that you're entering the correct Wi-Fi password for your main network during setup.

Advanced Troubleshooting:

  • Factory Reset: If the basic checks don't work, try resetting your Nest Wifi point to factory settings. Refer to the Google Nest Wifi manual or online resources for specific instructions on resetting the device.
  • Placement: Ensure your Nest Wifi point is within a reasonable range of your main router during setup. Avoid placing it too close to walls, furniture, or other electronic devices that can interfere with the signal.
  • Update Firmware: Check if there are any available firmware updates for your Nest Wifi router and point. Updating to the latest version can sometimes resolve compatibility issues or bugs.
  • Disable VPN/Firewall: If you're using a VPN or firewall on your device, try temporarily disabling them during the setup process to see if they're causing any conflicts. Remember to re-enable them afterwards for security.

Let us know how it goes.

Best,

Dan
