Problems connecting Google Mesh to Virgin Media Hub after setting the Hub to modem only function

Hi, I have problems connecting Google Mesh to Virgin Media Hub after setting the Hub to modem only function.  Ive connected the ethernet port to the google mesh pod and connection fails.  Do I need to configure the google hardware in anyway or is more needed on the Virgin Media side.  Any help is appreciated on this!
