Allowing Access to a Single Door

Hello! I am an owner of a townhome with an Air BnB on the first floor. The door to the Air BnB as well as the door to my house both have Yale locks. I want to allow access to my Air BnB guests to one of my front doors and not the other. How do I do this?

Hi PizzaLover87,

Thanks for reaching out! No worries, let's get this question answered! I understand your concern about allowing access to your AirBnb guests. I would be more than happy to help.

  • You can change the passcode and operate each lock separately through the Nest App.
  • For your AirBnb guests, you can set it to 'Home Entry Only' Access for the respective lock.
    • Home Entry Only only lets someone arm and disarm Nest Secure and lock or unlock the Nest × Yale Lock. This is best for people like guests who you don’t want to view or control your other Nest products.

    • If you choose this option, the Nest app generates an entry passcode and lets you set a schedule for them to enter your home at certain times.

Home Entry Only

People who have Home Entry Only access:

  • Can’t use the app to control your Nest products.
  • Are assigned a passcode to arm and disarm Google Nest Secure and unlock the Google Nest × Yale Lock. The Owner and anyone with Full Access can change this passcode or schedule access times.
  • Can be assigned a Google Nest Tag to arm and disarm Nest Secure.
  • Can’t view history for the home they have access to. (For example, Home/Away Assist Activity History).

To implement Home Entry Access, here are the steps:

  1. Open the Nest app.

  2. If you have more than one home in the Nest app, make sure that the one you want to grant access to is active on the app home screen. If it’s not, tap Menu Arrow pointing down on the app home screen, then select the home you want.

  3. Tap Settings Nest settings icon on the home screen.

  4. Tap Family & Guests app family and guests icon.

  5. Tap Add a person.

  6. Enter the person’s name as you’d like it to appear in the Nest app and tap Continue.

  7. Tap Home entry only.

  8. An entry passcode will be generated automatically for the person.

  • If you want to create your own passcode for them:

    1. Tap the Show passcode Nest secure eye icon to view the passcode.

    2. Tap Change passcode.

    3. Enter a new passcode and tap Save.

  1. You can also set a schedule to choose when the person can enter your home:

  1. Tap Schedule Nest app schedule icon.

  2. Tap Starts to set a start date for entry and tap Expires if you want to set an end date for entry to your home.

  3. Set the daily schedule to allow them to enter your home all day, or certain times of the day, and specific days of the week.

  4. Tap Back back arrow to save your changes and return to the person’s profile.

  1. To email the passcode to the person, tap Send info. If you make any changes to their schedule or passcode later, you can always select Send update.

  2. Enter the email address and add a short note about what the person might need to know about your home.

  3. Tap Send.

They should receive an email invitation from account@nest.com within a couple of minutes.

The email will include a passcode that they can use to arm or disarm Nest Secure and lock or unlock the Nest × Yale Lock when they enter and leave.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Thanks!

I'm trying to access the Home Entry Only after I name my guest and hit Continue, but I have no Home Entry Only option to click on. There's a greyed Home Entry Only on my main page for this lock, but no active button to apply to my guest.
