I'm pushing 30 feet in two locations. Can the camera actually see that far at night or would I be wasting my money?

At 30 feet, our Google Nest Camera (Battery), which is plugged in with the optional power cable, records but does not detect events at night. For example, it will detect a Person event as we walk AWAY from the house at night because that's closer to the camera but will not detect a person event as we walk TOWARD the house at night because that's about 30 feet away. And while it detects Person events for people walking on the public sidewalk during the day it does not detect them at night. And of course, the images are not particularly clear at 30 feet.
