Nest Secure EOL, Impact to Nest X Yale lock

With Nest Secure going away, will this also impact the Nest X Yale lock, the ability to manage users, etc?  If you take the ADT alternative, is there a similar solution available through ADT (managing lock codes remotely, disabling the alarm from the lock, etc)?

Ditto.

Doesn't look like it. I think Google is just screwing us over, again.

I moved fully to August Smart Lock, since it supports all smart home platforms - including Google Home, Alexa, HomeKit and... Home Assistant where Google is pushing all of us to go since online services controlled by Google are being discontinued even when the devices work perfectly.

Shame on you Google for again breaking your word.

Absolutely infuriated over this

Hi everyone,

Thanks for reaching out here in the Community.

@jacandnera, this'll not impact the ability to manage users because you can still use the Nest app. We still have Nest devices that can only be controlled through the Nest app only.

@All, Our partnership with ADT was first announced in 2020. Our goal was to develop even better solutions including the ability to add additional sensor options and professional monitoring. We believe that this partnership offers a better experience.

We appreciate your thoughts about this announcement. Let us know if you have other questions in mind.

Best,

Emerson

Will the integration between the Yale X Nest lock and the ADT+ app allow smart disarm of the ADT+ system when someone uses their code on the Yale X Nest lock?

Great question! I haven't found a way yet. Seems like you could setup a routine for it pretty easily, but the unlock event isn't available, and the disarm function isn't either.

Hi there,

We just want to check if you have seen our response posted above. Let us know if you have additional questions, otherwise we'll be locking the thread.

Best,

Princess

Saw it, and it doesn’t address my question

Agreed, the question about the integration between systems wasn't answered.  We are losing many hardware features already (path lighting, motion sensors built into door sensors, a button to temporarily disable the sensor, etc).  Losing some of the quality of life software features, such as disarming the alarm from the door lock, feels unnecessary.

Regarding the communication about the partnership, I understand the need to put a positive spin on things.  I just haven't found any real positives in this change for the consumer yet. The replacement hardware didn't cover everything I had purchased for the Nest system.  Ordering new hardware has been a problem, ADT can't seem to get their systems to work. Overall, it hasn't been a better situation.

I installed my ADT+ system this weekend.  I won’t mean to be a A-hole about it, but if Google thought the ADT experience was going to be better, they are completely out of touch with the user.  The integration is minimal and it’s clear that there was no thought into supporting older devices.  It’s so Google.

Dead on.  No geofencing/prompt to arm/disarm when leaving/arriving, no smart disarm, no support for Yale X Nest, nor 1st Gen Hello.  The ADT+ functionality is a pared down experience compared to the Nest app/Secure.

@EmersonB , thank you for the response. So, next April the Nest app will still be around, it just won't work for Nest Secure? Doesn't the Nest X Yale lock require the Nest Guard to connect and operate, or another standalone device (can't remember the name of that one)?  I only have the guard, so how will the lock continue to operate?

Honestly, I would have loved to see the partnership include making your hardware work on the ADT network. The door sensors, with the motion detection, path lighting, button for temporarily disabling the sensor, are amazing. I'm not looking forward to losing those capabilities.

Yale X Nest requires either the Secure or the Connect devices to connect to your WiFi.

Hey everyone,

Your lock will function if you’re going to change your Wi-Fi bridge to Nest Connect. On the other hand, the support and functionality in the Nest app for Nest Secure will be discontinued on April 8, 2024. To learn more about Nest Secure’s update and exclusive offer for a Self Setup System from ADT, take a look at this link

I appreciate your help here, @Emerson and @NightOps.

Thanks,

JT

You will need the Nest Connect.  It’s not clear from the website that it can be used without the Nest Secure, but it can.  The Nest Connect will connect your 15.4 from the NextxYale lock to the internet via wifi.

I'm getting email stating that they will be locking these threads. I guess they don't want us talking about this anymore.

Google clearly doesn't care about its supportive customers who spend upwards of $1,000 on Nest Secure and $280 per Nest Yale Lock (I have two of them).   You want to make me have to go around and Uninstall my secure system, reinstall your new total crap ADT system, pay hundreds of extra dollars for motion detectors and door/window sensors to match what I have now (cuz your ADT rebate doesn't cut it) and then as if that wasn't a big enough slap in the face, go buy a Nest Connect and lose all functionality of disarming the alarm when using the keypad to unlock the doors.   So Google thinks it's a better experience to have to pull out your phone, open your ADT app, and disable your alarm outside your door and then do the keypad to go in?   Ya, spending an extra $1,000 for worst functionality is clearly a top notch user experience.   Amazon and Ring would never even have considered such a move.

Yup. This needs to be publicized more. I will never buy google products again. You never know when the support will end. They burned me twice already (stadia and nest secure). So no more google products. I will actively tell everyone to avoid Google products.

Agreed, wish I went Ring instead of Nest all this time.  Won’t be able to get out of the Google Home ecosystem entirely right away because I don’t want to re-buy 6 security cameras but I’ll definitely be switching my security and door locks to something that won’t lose support and functionality on a whim.

im assuming my Nest x Yale locks will be useless once the Nest App goes away.   Maybe the same with my legacy Nest cameras.

No matter how many times google makes excuses for this. This taught me to never trust google ever again.. i trust them with software, not hardware. I am done. I spent 3000$ in my whole house security system. Only used for 4 years. I should have gone with ring. Amazon’s backing is way more powerful with hardware that google will ever be. I just do not buy their products anymore, and i recommend against to every person i talk about this…
