Temporary codes not working occasionally

David1215

Hi. I have had a Google Nest for more than a year with no issues. However,  recently on 2 different occasions the temporary guest codes did not work. I physically went to the location to verify this on the 2nd time. The code was active in the app and not working.  My code worked in the lock. I verified that the privacy mode was not activated.  Also, I was able to open door remotely with my phone. I programmed a new, different code and the new code worked each time. One big problem. I will not always be available to troubleshoot entry when everything is done right. This is exactly why I bought this lock and recently a 2nd one for a different property.  Now I am a little worried that a guest will get locked out and I won't be available like the 2 aforementioned situations.  I do have a clue that is strange. The code for the 1st time this happened matched a code that I assigned to someone else several weeks earlier and was deactivated, then person removed from my list as I only have 10 spots. I need to do research if 2nd code was recycled.  Please tell me what will fix this permanently. I do not like the idea of a factory reset because we would just bury the problem and it will probably resurface at an unknown date and time.

I forgot to mention.  It is a Yale Google Nest.

Hi David1215,

I’m sorry you’re having trouble accessing your guest pass codes. Let’s see what’s going on — a few questions: could you remove the guest pass codes then create a new set of pass codes? Also, try changing the pass codes.

Here’s how:

  1. On the Nest app home screen, tap Settings Nest settings icon.
  2. Tap Family & Guests family and guests icon.
  3. Tap You to change your own passcode.
  4. Tap Passcode.
If you sign in with a Nest Account, you’ll enter your account password, minimize your phone’s keyboard, and press Continue.
  5. Enter a passcode you’ll remember between 4 to 8 digits long.
Note: If another person is using this passcode, a notification will pop-up to prompt you to Choose a different passcode. Pass codes must be unique so you can see who locked and unlocked your lock in History app history icon.
  6. Tap Show pass code to view the pass code.
  7. Tap Save. If you sign in with a Google Account, you’ll receive an email that your pass code has been changed.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks,

JT

Thanks for your input. I will try it when I am back at the location.  That may be in a few weeks.
