Unlock notifications

Note: I was forced to choose either Android or iOS as a platform, but this issue happens on both.

I'm reviving this thread, which was closed for some reason even though the issue persists.

The problem:

  • Normally, on a Yale x Nest lock, you receive a notification when someone uses the keypad to unlock the door. If John uses his PIN, the notification will say "John unlocked the door."
  • For the past 7 or so months, the lock no longer sends these notifications. If John unlocks the door, I don't get a push notification (although it does show up in the event history if you check it manually).
  • The notifications for locking the door still work ("The door was locked") and the notifications for unlocking the door with the physical knob ("The door was unlocked") still work. The only issue is with the person-specific passcode notifications.
  • For my household, we have observed the issue on three different Android phones and one iPhone.
  • In the other thread, there were at least 7 or 8 other users experiencing this.

I have been calling and emailing with Google Support for 6 months and we have gotten nowhere. I have had many people not understand what the issue I'm describing is, and I have also had some people insist that this is "working as expected" (which just means they are not understanding what I'm describing).

It's incredibly frustrating to pay for a specific feature and then have Google break that feature without any acknowledgment or apparent effort to fix it.

(And if you are a Google person responding to this issue, please don't lead with "I understand how frustrating that is" — I have heard that too many times. If you actually understand how frustrating it is, acknowledge that you have a bug and fix it).

@AngelNails @sojit @zloidiadia @alexinatl @Briansfaria @Deepakpanchal @FauxPalindrome @Huett — Tagging you all from the previous post about nest unlock notification issues, since that post was closed for some reason. Has anyone seen any resolutions on this issue?

The issue (bug) still persists. Google has done NOTHING from their side other than “breaking” something that was working properly. The product has lost “value” since it has lost this particular “functionality” and of course it has added nothing new (noticeable at least). I’ve lost my hope of getting this problem fixed. I’ve also started looking for a newer and better alternative to replace my old lock. One thing I’m sure, I’m NOT buying any other Nest or Google products in the future. I know nobody cares, but I do. Too bad 😞

Google Support has gone through a few phases with me:

  • Not understanding the issue
  • Suggesting I try things like rebooting the lock, factory resetting the lock, moving the lock to a new "Home" structure in the app, checking my notification settings. I have of course done all of these and none of them help.
  • They mailed me a new Nest Connect plug because they insisted that was the problem.
  • Telling me they fixed the bug (they didn't)
  • Telling me there _is_ no bug!

It's frustrating to be back where I started — the support people saying there actually is not a bug, and that I just have my notification settings incorrect. It's like they are not reading the history of our conversation! At one point, there was agreement that there _is_ a bug, but now they are denying it.

Why do I buy Google products!

Talked to someone new on the phone today, and they said it's likely that this is just a notification feature that was removed intentionally. I don't think that's correct!

Here's an official google page specifying that this type of notification is an expected feature. Not that we (the users of the lock) need to be told that, but it seems like these Google support people might need some proof of what their product is advertised as offering.

100% correct. I think It can't be more clear than that. That specific advertised feature is NOT working anymore. But Google support just keeps blaming the users. I think trying to get the issue fixed it's already a lost case 😡

Calling Google about this has basically become a hobby of mine now. This time when I called, they said to fill out this complaint form: https://google.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_2aStd8wsbcLGvwG

Probably won't get read by anyone but who knows
