Can't get nest mini to connect - my phone isn't supported on device utility

Kesepton

I am trying to connect these to my home app. Says I need to use device utility to connect the mini to Wi-Fi. When I go to download the app, it says it isn't supported on my phone because it's made for an older android.

What can I do here?

Hey everyone,

We’re aware of the issue preventing download of the Device Utility app for some Pixel phone users running Android 14 and higher. The team is currently investigating. As a workaround in the meantime, you can use another device or Pixel running an older Android version to connect your speakers to the Google Home app.

We appreciate your patience, and we’ll keep you updated when there’s more to share.

Thank you,
Google Home & Nest Team

Download the Device Utility APK from APKPure. Allow unknown sources on your phone. Install APK

PS: This has been an issue for a very long time!
The Google team should ashamed of such poor support for their own product and newer phones.

Here is my workaround:

Instructions on how to bypass the error message in the Google Play Store

Download the App Utility 2.2.8.2 as a APK-File from @APKMirror:

https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/device-utility/device-utility-2-2-8-2-release/

Select the "Universal" Architecture to download it as a "apk" File.
Go to the download folder on your phone and open or install the APK file. Acknowledge warning about installation from a trustworthy source and allow execution.
The utility app is then installed without any further error messages.
Tested on a Pixel 7 with Android 15.

Try updating your phone's software, using an older device to set it up, or finding an alternative app. If nothing works, check the manufacturer’s support for a workaround.

Wow Google, just WOW.  Almost 8 months later and we still have to use a bandaid fix.

Seriously? 8 months later this is still open? Just bought a speaker that needs the "Device Utility". And, of course, not available to my up-to-date Pixel 8 Pro. Are you really expecting to keep old phones for years because you can't get your sh*t right? That's pathetic!

Same issue as everyone else ! Received new Google Mini , Down loaded Google Home app , attempted to install new Google Mini , advised to install Utility, advised there that unable to install on new version of Goggle Pixel 7
My phone is Google Pixel 7A , Android Version 15.
I was using Alexa, thought that this would be an upgrade. Have been working on this for 4 hours now.
This is nowhere near acceptable .

I finally was able to reach a human at - Google won't let me send phone number here. I got it from Pissed Consumer website.

Was directed to go to go to Google site, sign in with Google acct used, find Google Nest Mini in order history, click "return", and jump through the hoops to print return order, print shipping label and return packing list. Money will be credited back to my account 5-7 days after receipt of package.

Headed to FedEx drop off point with package today.

Back to Alexa.

If you're having trouble getting your Nest Mini to connect and seeing a message like "your phone isn't supported on device utility", it usually means your phone isn't compatible with Google's Device Utility xender app, which is needed for the initial setup of some Nest devices. This can happen on older Android versions or certain non-certified devices.

Mine has been returned, so no worries now except them crediting my account back with the money I wasted on it.

Doesn't get the time back I wasted on it though.
