Google Nest Hub Max - connects to wifi but we could not communicate with my IPhone

I have just purchased the Google Nest Hub  Max and it successfully connect to my Netgear Wifi, but it says it cannot connect to my iPhone. My setting for that Wifi connection does allow local connections.  I do have Norton 360, so I did turn off my VPN.   I am now upgrading OS to 16.2 .  I was at 16.1.   I dont think the OS version is my issue.   I have disabled my VPN, but when I go to install, it finds my Nest Hub Max, and when I select my 2.4ghz Wifi, it does connect...and gives me the connect message, and then says something went Wrong. The Family room Display may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your Iphone. Make sure you have enabled local access in you privacy settings.  The google Home App is enabled in the Privacy Settings in Local Network under Privacy & Security.

Can anyone help with what this issue is??

The issue here was that we have the Netgear Night Hawk which has an overall SID and "sub - Sids."   Dont connect the display to the overall sid.  Connect to a specific SID and make sure the  iPhone is connect to that same SID.    That was the issue.

Hi folks,

@Jimmy_J, thanks for the help.

@gsmalls88, that's not the experience we want you to have, especially with a new Nest Hub Max. Let us help you out. Since you mentioned that you have a Netgear Nighthawk router, it would help a lot if you could access your router settings and try the steps below before setting it up again:

  1. Disable Access Control.
  2. Enable the option Allow guests to see each other and access my local network in the Guest Network Setup.

If you're not able to access your router settings, kindly contact your ISP or your routers manufacturer to guide you through it and tell us how it goes.

Best,

Dan
