Google home needs activation (can't install device utility)

Hi everyone, I'm trying to set up my old google home mini but the home app says that it needs activation first. This prompts me to install Device Utility App, but the play store says that app is designed for an older system (using a pixel 8a). Anyone know how to get the google home mini activated and connected? Thanks!

Do you have another mobile device that isn't a Pixel to try and set up the Mini?

I will check with the Community Specialists about the Device Utility app and see if they have any workarounds to help you...

Thank you! I tried with my old Pixel 4, but no luck there (and can't get the device utility app on the apple store either). No other phones in my house unfortunately!

Can you set it up with iPhone (if you have one??)using the Home app?

I just gave that a try and it didn't work unfortunately. Appreciate any other suggestions you might have!

I'm experiencing the same issue and it's quite frustrating. We've been loyal to Google and their products for years, I have your phone, this should NOT be an issue. I hope they can resolve the issue ASAP before I'm forced to buy an Alexa.

Hello everyone. Any news? I am having the same problem. I hame a Pixel 8, with Home app that won't activate Google Home and asks for the Device Utility that won't install in Pixel 8 with latest Android.
