Google nest hub disconnecting from wifi

Laynemn
Community Member

My google nest hub was working fine until a week ago. Now it disconnects after about 35 minutes. It is located about 8 feet from the router and all other devices are working on Wi-Fi just fine.

if I unplug and reconnect is works for about 30 minutes.

we have tried disconnecting from our wifi. Network  and then setting it up again.

nothing seems to work. It is about 2 years old

Hi Laynemn,

I’m sorry to hear about the trouble you’re experiencing with your Google factory reset Nest Hub device’s connection to your WiFi. Let’s get this sorted out. Do you have other Google Home/Nest speakers and displays aside from this? If yes, are they working fine on the same WiFi connection your Google Nest Hub is connected to?

Try doing these steps:

  • Reboot your router and Google Nest Hub. Monitor.
  • If the issue persists, factory reset your Google Nest Hub and set it up again.

Let me know if that helps.

Regards,
Alex

We have tried all these steps and it keeps disconnecting. When I unplug it and plug it back in it connects for 5-15 minutes then disconnects.

we don’t have any other google devices.

internet works fine for our tablets, phones and tv.

any other ideas to fix thus%?

Hello there,

Oh no. Let’s continue working on this. Try changing the DNS address of your router to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 > Unplug the router for 2 minutes > Plug back in > Once the router is up and running, reboot your Google Nest Hub device. Monitor its behavior and let me know how it goes.

Kind regards,
Alex

So I have the same issue and when my husband changed the DNIS our other devices (cameras etc.) would not connect to Wi-Fi - UGH. I have rebooted 1000 times and this is so frustrating. I never had this problem before .. why did this start happening? Do you have another fix? I thought the unit was defective but see this posted as an issue repeatedly. Please advise..

Hi Slainte810,

Thanks for reaching out. We hear you — we can understand why you feel that way. If possible, try to use another network to set it up and observe if it makes a difference.

I look forward to your response.

I am using this at home - and we only have this network. Are you suggesting I take it to Best Buy and have them try it there on their network? It is an intermittent problem so i would have to wait around for it to happen. I have a mobile hotspot but I don’t think I can connect it to that.. please advise how I would attach to another network.. are you saying another speed? We have 2.4, 5.1  but I saw other people respond that did not make a difference either.

Don’t have another network to change to. Why did this suddenly occur after working flawlessly for years? When can we expect a fix?

I am having the same issues with the Google Nest disconnecting from the internet. I have three Google Nest displays and they all intermittently disconnect from the internet randomly and I have to unplug them and reboot them. This recently started happening two months ago.

Hello Jackalbaby,

I can feel your frustration when you're having connectivity issues with all your Google Nest displays. A few questions: how far is your Nest display from your router? What is the make and model of your router? Is the iPv6 network enabled on your router? What is the current firmware version of your Google Nest display?

To further isolate the issue, please try setting up one of your devices using a mobile hotspot. Please note that you will need two mobile devices for this setup (one to serve as a router and the other to be used to set up your Google Nest display). Let's see if your device will have the same behavior.

Let me know how it goes.

Cheers,

Muddi

I also have this issue.  My Nest HUB MAX camera will just go offline, so isn't recording any movements, but if i open Nest App i can turn it on.  But now my Nest HUB in the home office just drops connection, keeps telling me to check the network but i am sat here working on a laptop on Wifi, and my home PC is next to that also on Wifi, as is my smart phone.  I tried to factory restore but it failed to update, so i took it downstairs, ran through factory restore and got it connected and linked in Google Home, but as soon as i took it back upstairs, tried to do anything on it like check my thermostat and it dropped connection telling me to setup again.

I'm having a similar problem with one of my Nest Hubs. I have two 2nd gen hubs and a Nest Audio all on the same wifi network. The hub and the Audio are in the same room but only the hub constantly disconnects itself and will not reconnect automatically (as compared to the Audio, which will).

Both Nest Hubs were purchased last July, but only one of them has this issue — the other works fine and reconnects itself if the wifi is restarted. I have tried a factory reset on the problem hub a couple of times and have moved the location with no luck. It will only reconnect if I manually power off the device.

Hi folks,

Stevoc, thanks for posting. Have you had the chance to try the steps provided in this thread? Give it a go and let us know the result by updating this thread.

Bridget, thanks for being a step ahead of us. To isolate this, try using another network like Muddi recommended and observe if it makes a difference.

I look forward to your responses.

What other network? Should I take it to the mall or something and sit there all day? I work from home so it's not like I could take it to work (if someone's employer would even allow that).

It's still under warranty and at this point I think it's best to return it. None of my other devices including my other Nest Hub are having this issue, so I doubt my network is the issue. My other Hub was purchased within two weeks of this one and has never had this problem.

The Nest Audio and my Google TV are both in the same general area (open plan living/dining/kitchen) and I have an extender on my network to ensure a stronger signal in my living room. This Hub is the only device that goes offline and stays offline — if the others lose signal they reconnect themselves without a reboot. And the Hub just randomly goes offline when everything else is working fine (my Nest Audio responds in its place). My other Google devices don't just disconnect themselves, let alone several times a day some days.

I am not interested in spending hours trying to resolve a problem that appears fairly clearly to be with one specific device.

Hi, I'm having the exact same issue as Laynemn. The exact same Nest Point has been working perfectly for years, now all of a sudden it disconnects every 15mns and I need to reboot it. I've tried factory reset and issue persists. I try changed the DNS as it was suggested previously but my set up is "ISP" so there's no DNS numbers. This is so weird but also highly inconvenient. How to fix? Please provide efficient update

And yes, my point is very near the router, it's not the problem

I have the same issue with 3pc of nest hub, 3pc of nest mini. Tried most settings on the router and also most tips avaliable in forums. Everything worked perfectly fine (aprox. 1,5 year) until a couple of month ago.

I have no other network to try on.

Also i see that you are helping others via e-mail? Have you resolved their issues and if that is the case, How?

All I want for Christmas is for this issue to be resolved and to stop having to play IT for Google - changing networks, rebooting, changing DNIS when I do not have the technical knowledge to do any of this… and really why should I?

I looked at changing the DNS as it was suggested previously but my set up is "ISP" so there's no DNS numbers. This is so weird but also highly inconvenient. How to fix it??

I’m having the same issue with the Google Nest Hub (2 gen). I keeps disconnecting and re-connecting to the network over and over randomly throughout the day.

Can someone from Google team provide hotline or live chat to fix the issue??

Hi everyone,

You all can try to connect Google Nest Hub to a temporary Hotspot:

  • In order to complete the setup for your Google Nest Hub with the use of a mobile hotspot, you need to have the 2 setup devices.
  • First phone will behave as the router. Turn on its data and hotspot.
  • The second device is the setup device. Connect it to the hotspot connection.
  • Factory reset your Google Nest Hub once more.
  • Using the second setup device, open the Google Home app > Follow the set up instructions > Choose the Hotspot network on the “Connect to WiFi” page.

If Google Nest Hub connects to the Hotspot, proceed to the next steps:

  • While the second phone is connected to the Hotspot, open the Google Home app > Devices > Tap on Google Nest Hub > Settings > Device information > Wi-Fi > Forget Wi-Fi.
  • Connect the setup device back to your home WiFi > Do the setup steps again and try connecting Google Nest Hub to your Wi-Fi.

Keep me posted.

Thanks,

Juni

I'm sorry, are you assuming all of us have multiple mobile phones on hand for this? This is kind of absurd. Google needs to simply honour the warranty on this device at this point. There is clearly a problem with the devices, especially when some of us have multiple Google Home devices and there is one obvious problem device.

Also the problem device under discussion is the Nest Hub (2nd Gen) not a Mini.
