Google nest hub update broke nest cam feeds

Mikeee
Community Member

Looks like a software update was pushed to my Google nest hubs and when I go to home control and to my nest cams, instead of a live feed from the cam coming up, I get a screen that says “idle” then name of the camera and room and “live feed” at bottom.  I can’t figure out how to get the live feed on the display any longer.  Anyone have the same problem and know the fix?

Hey everyone,

We appreciate the feedback regarding the issue affecting camera streaming on your Nest Hub displays. Our engineering team has rolled out a fix for the issue. If you're still experiencing a problem with viewing your cameras on your display, try rebooting your device. Please let us know if the issue persists after the reboot and include as much detail as possible.

Thank you for your patience.

I’m having the same issue. None of my tiles show up under “Home Control” except for rooms now, and even if I go to my cameras, I cannot get the feed to work. The Google hubs that I have not restarted yet don’t have this issue, but any that I restarted does. Extremely frustrating.

I have tried factory reset as well but no luck.

I have exactly the same issue, new firmware has broken this feature. Very frustrating.

Same issue here.

I am on with Google support and have been escalated to 'senior team' from 'Nest Hub Team' (three levels in now). I will share any outcomes here.

Was returned to 'Camera support' but as we can stream by telling google to show camera <cameraname> they are returning back to Google Home support.

Google are now aware of this new issue and actively investigating.

Looks resolved, interface now operating as prior to the breakage.

Same today, a full android house here though

Same problem here.  3 nest cameras and door bell feeds have all failed this morning.  This feature was literally the only reason I bought a nest hub for my home office.

Same issue. I found a work around by telling google to show camera {name}. It then plays fine.

This doesn't work for me.  It says "it doesn't look like that camera supports remote screens".  Thanks for the suggestion though, glad it works for you.

Works fine with that workaround! THANKS!!

That worked for me.  I told it to show my front door cam and at least I can view my Wyze camera's now that way.  Appreciate that tip!

Thanks so much for this. That seems to work for me right now too.

Also having this same issue. Attempted a wifi reset, hub reset, and camera reset to no avail. Camera feeds appear in my Google Home app just fine, but refuse to stream to my Hubs. While the workaround of "hey Google show me this camera" works, it's still not ideal for my situation.

you can ask to show camera name , that works

My "Cameras" card (and the ~6 others) has disappeared and now I only have a Rooms card, and three larger cards to the right.

Exactly the same issue here. Full android Google Home house here, 4 Nest cameras, Nest doorbell, Nest thermostat, smart lights, etc all gone from our 4 Nest hubs this morning out of nowhere. F'ing Google....

Same here, reset camera and hub, nothing. Probably a bug in the update. Show me ... Camera works but far from ideal.

Having the same issue this morning. Figured it was a bad software update overnight. Cameras card not showing anymore. Holding off on resetting, since it's not helping anyone else. The last time Google messed up cameras, the only real fix was just waiting a day or two until they fixed it. Frustrating, because I keep a camera view on all day to see who's at the door. Guess I'm flying blind today.

Found out this morning I had the very same issue. Tried rebooting the google hub to no avail, I can however view it in a browser or my phone which is not best approach. Hopefully they fix this soon.

I am having the same issue but was able to get around it by tell Google to show front door camera.

Same issue. I just posted on Reddit. No solution, yet.

Registered here to report this same issue, glad it's already on radars and I'm not the only one. Full Nest house here with Google Wifi as well. Very frustrating, we use ours as baby monitors.

We are getting the same result on all of our Nest Hubs and Nest Hub Max. Sliding down from the top to get to "Home control" yields only "Rooms" and no "Cameras", and selecting any of the cameras there will NOT display a livestream.

However, using Google Assistant to display an individual camera's livestream (e.g., "Hey Google show the Alley") still works.

Adding my voice to the crowd. We used buttons to show camera feeds every night in our household. The voice command works, thankfully, but we don't want to be talking in the middle of the night when switching feeds or fixing a dropped connection. It's so embarrassing that Google pushed out an update that broke such a feature - do ya'll even do any quality control testing??

When I open the camera op the smartphone app (Google home), the camera works just fine. On the google hub it says the camera is not active… any advice? Thank you
