Home hub switches to clock at night

Joruby43

I'd like the Nest home hub to keep the weather screen but when it is dark at night the display switches from the weather display screen to a plain clock screen.  I want to keep the weather screen. How can I do that?

Hi everyone,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

@MplsCustomer, I appreciate all effort on helping out.

@Joruby43, just want to check if you have seen these settings on customizing your photo frame:

Google Home app:

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. At the top right, tap Settings and then Photo Frame and then adjust the settings you want.

Nest display:

  1. From the bottom of your Nest display screen, swipe up.
  2. Tap Settings .
  3. Tap Photo Frame and then adjust the settings you want.

If you have Voice Match enabled, you can also say “Hey Google, change Photo frame” to open Photo frame settings on your Nest display.

Hope this helps.

Best,

Princess

I wonder whether that's even possible. This recent thread on the same question seems to indicate that the Google Nest Support people have trouble even understanding the question: https://www.googlenestcommunity.com/t5/Speakers-and-Displays/How-do-I-make-the-clock-to-be-displayed...

Hi, yes I know how to pick the frame I want. What I want to do is keep that choice. When I go to bed and the room is dark, the hub automatically  switches to a plain clockface. I do not want that. I want the hub to keep the weather display screen I have chosen.

Hi Joruby43,

Thanks for clarifying.

Have you checked the display settings wherein you need to select "Show Clock" and make sure that Screen Timeout is turned off. Lastly, make sure to adjust the ambient settings from the Google Nest Hub display by swiping up the bottom of the screen and enabling the ambient settings for it to adjust to its environment.

Best,

Princess

Hi Princess all the settings are exactly as you mentioned:

  • During low light the setting reads show clock
  • Screen timeout is turned off
  • Ambient setting is turned on

I'm at a loss as to what to do next. I appreciate your help

Hi Joruby43,

Thanks for the update. Let's go ahead and perform a complete reset to your Google Nest Hub and see if it would make any changes on its behavior.

Keep me posted.

Best,

Princess

I did that once before but I will try it again over the weekend and let you know. Thanks!

Hi Princess - I tried the hard reset and it is still doing the same thing.  I guess there is no work around for it at this time.  I'm ok with it for now.  Maybe at some point there is be a fix.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Joruby43,

Thanks for trying the steps. Could you please attach some photos of the exact display that you're getting so we can check further? Also, kindly provide the cast firmware version of your Google Nest Hub?

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:
