Hub photo's freezing

MargieMac

Moderator update: The topic discussed in this thread was resolved on 7/12/23. A new, similar conversation about this topic is currently happening here: Google Nest no longer displaying Photo Frame. Please feel free to join the discussion there!

---

I have two Google Hub and they are both freezing on photo's. My setting is every 5 seconds on both, but I see on other feedback they can freeze on any time frame setting.

I have had them for a couple of years and they have never done this, I wonder what changed.

Hey folks,

Thanks for updating us. Glad to know that it's already working. Let's keep on monitoring its behavior and let us know if you notice any changes.

For the meantime, since this has been resolved, we'll consider this complete and will lock the thread now. Feel free to start a new thread anytime you need assistance with your Google Nest devices and the Community would gladly help.

Best,

Princess

Does anyone know how to get the firmware update. Mine is freezing all day.  Is it an up date on google

home app on IPhone?

Vicki, Google pushes this update to you. It's a matter of waiting for them to send it to you. It's not everyone at once. Go to your hub device on the Home app, then go to the device settings, then look for Device information. Click on that. If it says system info ends in 134, you have been updated. Reboot your device. Easiest way is to unplug and wait a minute. Then you should be good to go.

Good to know. I'm in the preview program. With such a widespread issue, you'd think they'd want to fix everyone's.

I'm NOT in the Preview Program and I got the update.

Steve, as soon as I saw the update, I rebooted the device, then watched it periodically. I dunno. 5 1/2 hours so far

Max Hub here still at firmware version 10.20221207.2.120… Not participating in Preview.

Our Nest Hub (1st gen.) received the 2023 update overnight.  Did a soft reboot via the app and will keep an eye on it today.

Our Nest Hub Max with the 2023 update has been functioning properly for over 24 hours.  No freezes at all.  I did do a soft reboot via the app when I first noticed it had updated yesterday morning.

Looks like it is fixed!  No freezing of the photos and I am seeing photos I haven't seen in ages.

Hey everyone,

I'm glad to hear that your photos are not freezing on your Nest displays anymore. We are just waiting for confirmation from the team that this has been totally fixed. Meanwhile, let's continue to monitor your devices, and we'll make sure to update the thread as soon as we get a confirmation from the team.

Cheers,

Muddi

Hi @Muddi ,

Thanks!  Yes, finally Google heard us all and looks like we might have the fix with the .132 update (keeping my fingers crossed).  I signed up for the "Preview program" yesterday and received the update overnight.  So far after about 4 hours (monitoring from my side), it seems to be working.  I will confirm after I verify for sustained (a couple of days at least) of functional working .

Thanks once again.

Regards,

Vilas

How do I get this update?  I checked in the app at device and can’t find any place to update.  My system firmware is 10.20221207.2.120.  Cast firmware is 1.68.353511

Hi @Mark6357 ,

At least for me, I got the update (.132 version) after I signed up for the "Preview program".  You can do this by going to the device setup and the "Preview program" option is under the "Device information" section.

@Muddi :  I can confirm that the fix has been working for me for the last 24 hours (have been regularly monitoring).  Thanks once again for hearing us.

Regards,

Vilas

@vilasi1 , @Muddi ,

Thanks for the info.  I found the option and joined up.  I waited a while and checked device, still version (.120).  Rebooted device, still version (.120).  Any other suggestions?

It will update in the next 24hrs

@VictorKeech ,

Thanks for the information.

@eeeee open device in Google Home app.  Enter setup.  Enter device information.  Enter preview program.  Follow prompts to sign up.  System will update.  May take a while.  Mine did it at 02:30.

I don’t see a set up in the Google Home app !

Select the device.  Setup is the gear looking icon.

Sorry I have tried everything and don’t see that at all

John, go to your Google home app.

Go to the display device (your hub)

Go to Settings (the gear looking icon)

Go to Device information

Go to Preview Program

Ok thanks, got that now

If you are in the app, open the impacted device.   Setup is the gear in the upper right corner of the screen.

Thanks, @Mark6357 -- I've seen the positive comments re the preview fixing this.  But what about those of us that don't want to sign up to be on the preview program?  When will this fix hit the official release?

Mark6357

I don't know when it will be released.  You can always sign up, get the release the unsigned up.

Definitely NOT fixed.

So it seems a lot of people are getting the Preview version which some of us are on production.

This is getting ridiculous.  Definitely not a solution to unplug the unit every hour or so.  Doesn’t make for a “smart” house.  Seemed to start about the time of the new app version.

This problem was first reported almost two months ago.  The last update on this thread (from @KiiFromGoogle) was over one month ago.  The problem is still there, at least on my Hub Max.  Can we please get some further information on when this might be fixed?

The latest preview update has now fixed this for me on all three of my devices

So far several days have gone by since I got the update and my hub has not frozen once. I am on the preview

Similarly since I got the preview update mine have all been fixed for 3 days.

I had issues before with preview versions (which are meant as debug SW before they release it). So I really do not want to install that. When will we get a released version. Thanks.

@AnilPann , you can sign up,get the fix, then unsigned up.

Thank you.. I knew I could do that. I was just afraid what new bugs the preview version would have.. 🙂 . I do not really want to live in the development world of Google checking raw SW..

@AnilPann , I understand completely.  I can only say that I have not seen any other issues so far.  All the other features seem to still work.  Cameras, doorbell, lights, music, thermostats, …

Is there a fix for this yet?
