Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing all the details about the issue.

We understand this issue has been happening for quite some time now, but rest assured that our team is aware of this and looking into this issue at hand. Please try to plug in the device to a different power outlet, then attempt a reset.

If unresolved, perform the workaround below:

  1. At the back of the Nest display, unplug the power cord and wait for 10 seconds, then plug it back in and wait until the screen with the "G" logo shows up
  2. Repeat the first step, 10 more times.
  3. After the customer plugs the power cord back in, wait for the device to reset. The device announces "Welcome to Google Home" to signify that it's ready for setup.

Put your device to recovery mode:

  1. Put the device in Recovery Mode (Unplug the device, then perform a long press on the volume up and volume down buttons while the customer plugs the device back in. Once the device turns back on, release the volume buttons.)
  2. Once the device boots into Recovery Mode (a long press on both volume up and volume down buttons at the same time), attempt a factory reset.

If the above steps don't work, please reach out to us to get immediate support on this link: https://bit.ly/3adTfGB

Cheers,

Muddi

Hello all.

Like many users here, I'm having major issues with my Google Nest Hub device, which I bought last september. Now it won't work, it just shows the infamous 'grey G screen'. I've tried multiple times the Reset Factory "fix" but it clearly does not work. My Nest Hub was practically new and now it doesn't work?

Is there any real fix to this problem?

Hi. Just want to share with you guys that my google hub mini started working again.. Yipee! I factory reset it and when it started, I saw again the gray screen with G but I waited for I think 3 or 5 minutes and the google logo appeared and made the square line changing colors. And at last I was able to configure it again. I hope thus helps some of you also. Cheers!

Hi, I am having the same issue, suddenly started today after plugging in the device. Has worked perfectly up until now and factory reset/recovery does nothing. Any options?

Thanks

As others have suggested, I have managed to get it working again by repeatedly restarting it in Recovery mode; it took about 5 or 6 attempts but finally worked and I’ve set it up as a new hub.

I am having the same exact issue. Just started today. Will not get past the grey logo screen.

Will Google replace this?

Yes, they will. Google's customer service is as good as it gets! Just give them a call; they'll want photos, and they'll need you to restart it a few times again just so they can tic their boxes. You'll get a replacement a week or so after they receive your old one.

That's great to hear!

Wow, that is not my experience at all. I have been waiting since Dec 1st for a "senior specialist" to get back to me and I am no closer to a resolution. I have sent many messages and have called. I have been told on these forums many times that my issue has been escalated and I have still heard nothing back.

That is where I started. After that chat, I followed up through email 6 times and then I called and talked to someone in support. They told me "I am sorry; the only person that can help you is a "senior analyst" and they will get back to you". I have a Nest Hub Max, and that might be the reason.

Hi,

I’ve got 2 Google nest hub mini and both of them went grey out. I tried many times in the recovery mode and tried to factory reset it but the problem remains. Can anyone help me with how to resolve this problem? Thanks.

I have same issue.

It only display  G logo on gray screen.

I called Google customer service, but was told they couldn't do anything because my warranty ended.

I was only advised to buy a new one.

It sucks.

I was able to get my Hub working again by following the reset/restore instructions. Had to start all over with setting it up and connecting to WiFi like I just bought it but that was quick enough and now it's functioning as it should. No more frozen G logo.

I just purchased a Google hub for Xmas, was setting it up but it failed to connect to wifi. The device normally says unable to connect and make sure the phone and hub are on same network. Nothing happened, the hub just stayed stuck on setting up screen, I unplugged the device for 30 secs replugged it in and it reboot to grey G screen. Tried everything mentioned above and nothing. Worse part is that this hub is a present for family in Argentina.

My Google hub is stuck on the gray green with the white G .  I've tried the reboot many times but it's not working.  I have 2 Nest Hub Max as well and those are fine.  Everything in my home is google/nest products and this is really disappointing.  Please help!

Same issue here. Was able to factory reset but it’s reverted back to the grey G screen. How do I find the ‘chat’ to speak to google? Our device is only 12 months old.

Sounds like they bricked the hubs. Now what are they going to do about it… that is the question. It sounds like some they are replacing but others… are they just not contacting us? Quite the mess up on googles part to brick a whole line of products with a software update.

In my case the customer care just ignored to provide a replacement and confirmed i bought a device in UK and currently in India hence it can't be arranged a big joke , even though it's their issue not ready to accept and either not good hand to help customer like me as well. Highly disappointed.

Having the same issue. Factory reset not actually resetting and is stuck on the G logo.

This is unacceptable as what do all those people do once their guarantee is outside of the one year. This is exactly what apple did in order to get people to buy new products. Will not be buying this brand again as the fault lies with the company's updates

I am now having the same issue with my display. It has been stuck on the G screen for about a month. I have tried unplugging and factory resetting the device. No result. This sounds like bad news.

I am having the same issue. I have tried the factory reset and I'm still stuck on the grey G screen.

Are there any other solutions for guys issue?

Okay, all.  There IS hope but you have to be patient.  I reached out to them via chat, they did all of their research on my nest hub and I just received a replacement today.  You just have to supply them with information they ask for and you should be good.  I was pleased with their customer service, I must say.  Going to set my replacement up now!!!  Good luck, all!

Mines been this way now for a couple months. Guess it's time to just buy a new one. Not the option I was hoping for but we have the first one that came out. Good excuse to upgrade I reckon.

i think that is the wrong attitude. there was a update that broke yours, mine and the other users devices on this thread. Google should fix or replace them for their mistake.

Hello all,

I have the same issue. I tried all steps which are on internet (factory reset etc), but noting helps. The device is after warranty so how should I repair it? Thx Zdenek

I have been experiencing the same issue. My google home had a Grey G appear and now it won’t go away. I have tried factory resetting a handful of times, moved outlets and left it unplugged. Would love any help or suggests to fix this problem.
