Lights on mini constantly pulsing

Over the past 2 weeks I've noticed that the Google Home Minis  (5 of them) throughout my house frequently have four pulsing white lights. This is not the result of someone saying anything remotely close to "Hey Google" or "Ok Google" and it is not the result of an errant broadcast. 

I've noticed that it even happens when I'm the only one home and haven't said a word.

I've done the whole unplug and reset routine. Why are they all suddenly listening???

I think this is one of two that I know are running

But, there is no fix, this most likely a Google introduced bug and its just a matter of waiting.

Please bring back the chime that happens before the broadcasted message. Otherwise, you don't have time to stop whatever noisy thing you're doing to listen to it and you end up missing the first part of the message.

Same issue here, I have:

Google and Nest homes, and minis, home hub max and regular.

 

We regularly use broadcasts, and now the minis (and the hubs) seem to get "stuck" with the lights flashing and sometimes not responding to any voice commands (on the minis) and on the home hubs, you see a transcript of the broadcast forever... until you pull the power and plug it back in. Then it's "resolved" until the next broadcast.

2-3 weeks seems pretty accurate, but it's very frustrating.

The home speaker (1) as well as all Mini speakers (3) are using the same versions

Yes, I do use broadcast daily.

I am having the same issue where the Google minis have the white light pulsing constantly.

Having identical issue with 3 Google mini's, 1 Google home and 1 Google Audio all pulsing.  Everyone in my home assumes Google is spying.  Goes away briefly when prompting Hey Google but always returns for past few weeks.  Located in USA, devices are 1-4 years old.  Factory resets did not help.

Hopefully we can get a fix for this soon. Restarting the devices, turning off "Continued Conversation", and turning off routines does not appear to fix the issue.

Just found this and glad to see I'm indeed not alone.

I have 3 home minis that have all been doing the constant light pulsing for a few weeks now.
However, I also have an Insignia Google Home (the black rectangular device with an LED display on front with time and temperature) that hasn't been exhibiting any issues like the others.

I have 10 minis and a Google home and I've been experiencing this same thing for the past month or so. It is so frustrating.

I have 4 mini's two nest, and 1 max, they ALL get stuck at flashing lights after a broadcast, and for the ones with screens, stuck at the reply screen, giving it a "hey google, cancel" kills the light/listening, but they all do it, all the time, and resetting does nothing to help.  Also, since I have so many devices, if it helps to know, broadcast is intermittent, I can hear it on a couple speakers (if their volume is loud enough) before the sending speaker acknowledges the message is being sent, and even then, it can be upwards of 15+ seconds apart from each other speaker, and some it never broadcasts to.  Clearly broken.  The whole point of broadcast is to not have to walk to another room, or up a flight of stairs, so much for that!

In a separate thread about this issue, Google asked that I send them feedback every time it happens. If they want information, I believer that we shoudl provide it. All of it. Every time. 

So, when you Broadcast and the lights are on, go to every room that is blinking and do the following:

To do this: Send feedback to Google

Say "Ok Google" or "Hey Google", then…“Send feedback”

What Google Nest or Home will say or do: 

Transcribe the audio feedback that you give and send the transcription to the Google Nest team. The audio of your feedback will not be recorded.

On displays, if you do not want to include your personal information or a screenshot of your screen, untick Include personal information or Include screenshot
When finished, tap Send.

For the past few weeks, I have had multiple Home and Mini speakers have their lights come on randomly throughout the day as if the assistant is waiting on something or listening in (scary thought). It is not an accidental trigger as the lights will not time out and go off on their own. I can OK Google > Cancel, which clears the lights, but later on they will come on again. This happens randomly on different speakers throughout the day. I have tried unplugging power, waiting, then plug in again, but issue returns.

I have seen suggestions to factory reset, but this is acting like a recent update that has a bug somewhere. A factory reset will load the same firmware. If I do a reset, will I not have to redo any routines that are based on a specific device, or add them into the whole "Home" ecosystem?

Anyone else seeing this?

I get the same thing with my speakers.

Aside from you, are there other accounts linked to your Google Nest speakers? To answer your questions, yes, we can perform a complete reset without redoing the routines you've made as long as you will set up the speakers using its original name. Here's how: https://goo.gle/32c7nIF

 

Also, could you please provide the cast firmware version of your speakers?

 

To check which firmware version you're on, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Google Home app Google Home app.
  2. Touch and hold your device's tile.
  3. Tap Settings and then Device information.
  4. Under "Technical information," check for Cast firmware: "X.XXX.XXXXX." If the device is on Fuchsia, check for System firmware version: "X.XXXXXXXX.X.XXXXXXX"

Yes, I do use broadcast daily.

I have no issue with merging the thread to the one Laupsavea mentioned. If I cannot figure out where this is done, I will reach back out.

Since the other thread has been marked as solved, is it getting any traction? Maybe I should leave this thread open and link the other one to this thread?

I am not seeing any solutions offered. All community attempts at resetting all speaker devices, including one that reset their whole network, have failed to resolve the pulsing lights on home and mini speakers. It is also still not understood by the community what exactly this indicates and if this is active 'listening' (thus indexing of private conversations) or not.

Looking forward to answers and a valid solution.

Sadly my experience is that when a problem is caused by Google and some bad issue that's been introduced by then...their standard PlayBook is to ask people lots of diagnostic questions but to try and close the thread as soon as possible - even though he isn't actually sorted.

 

I think this is due to their corporate success metrics getting the way of actually doing the right thing for the customer.

Exactly the same thing happening to all 5 of my mini's (both generations) over last few weeks. Have to keep turning mics off - solid red lights are less annoying than flashing ones.

USA. Noticed it started a week or two ago. No changes to internet, passwords, etc.
When broadcasting, the lights on the receiving minis continue running after the broadcast. Now some of them won't broadcast to certain rooms and the one downstairs will only broadcast to itself. 

We tried unplugging, factory reset and nothing has fixed the issues.
We have deleted all the minis, deleted the home and are now creating a new Home.
Did Google change something? If this does not work, we will likley swicth to Alexa.

Tired of the issues with Google Home.

Issue is still happening. I see that at least 4 or 5 threads ranging from a month and a half to a few days old are all being merged together.

The firmware version on our devices is the same, so the issue is still persisting.

Please do not lock these merged threads, all that will do is cause more new threads to be created and merged together.

On second thought, please lock the thread. We'll just go make more new threads about this issue until it's actually fixed.

Contrary to what the previous "Community Specialist" indicated, this issue has not been solved or resolved and there is no fix or "accepted answer".

Why lock the thread when the issue hasn't been addressed.  There is no solution for this defect introduce in the last update.  Resetting the devices had zero effect on the problem.

There is no update because nothing has been fixed. There has been no change and no reply from Google as to what they did. You want us to send feedback every time our Google acts up. You got it. Be prepared. 
I looked and there are multiple threads from others having the same problem. 
Google changed something.

I've been sending Feedback. This is absolutley ridiculous.  Google knows or should know what the problem is by now. 

Google messed something up in the last update. And it sucks.

So I've rebooted, completely reset and unplugged the device several times. 

 

The popping noise is getting worse and it's very frustrating as I use it for white noise at night due to suffering from tinnitus. 

 

Also, bedtime routine isn't working properly. I have it set up to play a playlist on Spotify and it doesn't start. I have to ask it specifically to play it and it's fine. 

 

Please help!! The popping noise is doing my head in.  Logged to Google but had nothing back.

Sorry to hear that you're experiencing that with your Google Nest speakers. A few things I'd like to ask-- is it still popping even if the device is idle? Does it happen every time you try to use the speakers? Could you please send us a short video clip of what's happening? 

 

You might also find these steps helpful in creating or editing routines:

 

  1. Open the Google Home app .
  2. Tap Automations and then Add and then select Personal.
  3. To name your Routine, tap Untitled.
    • If you add a voice starter before you name your Routine, the voice starter becomes the name.
  4. Add the starters and actions you want. Note: If your Routine is set to start automatically and includes actions with audio, specify the device you want the audio to play on. At the bottom, tap Device for audio, select a device and tap Save.
  5. Tap Save.

You can find your new Routine in the list under "Personal Routines." This list also includes some ready-made Routines that you can edit.

Note: If you can't create or run Routines, you may need to change the language of your phone to one that is supported for your region.

"I'm home" and "Leaving home" are both ready-made Personal Routines that don't use presence sensing. To create Household Routines that start when everyone's away or someone comes home, set up Home & Away Routines.

Some examples of Personal Routines:

  • Starter: Say “Hey Google, let’s go home.”
  • Action: Assistant gives a traffic update, reads your texts, and plays a podcast.
  • Starter: Say “Hey Google, bedtime.”
  • Action: Assistant sets an alarm, turns off the lights, and plays sleep sounds.
  • Starter: You dismiss your morning alarm.
  • Action: Assistant tells you about events on your calendar, the day’s weather, and your commute to work.

Hi, yes. It's still doing it even though its been moved to a totally different plug. Unfortunately I can't record it as is so sporadic. 

You're not crazy, I'm getting this too. I listen to radio on Tunein and my Google Nest Mini makes a popping sound every few minutes. It doesn't happen in predictable intervals.

It's not a Tunein issue as when I stream the same stations through my PC/phone there is no popping noise. It seems to be localised to the Nest Mini. Rebooting/changing plugs doesn't fix it.
