Spoken broadcast message changed to spoken message??

realjax
Community Member

So when I broadcast a  spoken message to other devices in the house, the nest devices start to analyse the message and then change it to a spoken message using the google voice.  I know this sounds absurd and that is exactly what it is.  Why on earth would you want to change a spoken message into a.... spoken message??? Which 9 out of 10 times is wrong as well!! How do I turn this 'feature' off and prevent the home devices from trying to analyse spoken broadcast messages??

Hey everyone,

Great news! I'm thrilled to inform you that the broadcasting issue has been resolved. If you're still experiencing any problems, a quick reboot of your device could help. But, if the issue persists, do let us know by updating this thread.

Cheers,

Muddi

I know it goes without saying but I wanted to provide some additional feedback on the recent change to use an assistant voice for the broadcast feature. While I understand the intention was to improve the experience, the current voice seems less kid-friendly and sometimes transcribes things inaccurately. I'd suggest considering rolling back to the previous broadcast voice or finding another option that retains the family-friendly goal of this feature. Broadcast should be familiar and retain original voice f the brodcast.

Is it resolved

Our household eagerly awaits a fix for this. The transcribing is awful and much less personal. Change back or I want my money back for all 9 devices please. It beens like this for weeks now.

Posting this on 25th November 2023.

Fully agree. We also have a lot of these speakers and displays (8 in total) and this was by far the feature we used most. We are a bilingual family which confuses the text-to-speech process even more. It's bad enough with just English but it can't switch between English and German at all, it's just total gibberish.

Our devices are basically useless now, except for being able to hear when someone rings the doorbell.

Update?

(to say: "there is still nothing to say" is still better than to say nothing)

Many relevant questions could be answered.
* is it a "feature" with unforseen flaws?
* is it a bug?
* can the progress of "known issue" be tracked as a ticket somewhere?
* will it be resolved with a automatic regression or with next update? ...
*->) if by update... will the insider program get the update beforehand?

My family speaks in multiple languages. This transcribing jargon doesn’t work with that. Please change to audio of our own voices.

Any updates? This is very annoying not able to broadcast our own voice

So another week goes by and still no fix.  Are we just being ignored?

Please update more regularly.

I don't get it. I complained about a month or 2 ago and it suddenly started to work for a bit then has broken again. Why can't they roll back to when it was working.

At they very least they need to give people an option

I said the same thing past 2 weeks all that's being said is they are.looking into the issue but not actual evidence or reply from them except its being addressed

Here's an example - my wife broadcast "what do you want for dessert Alyssa?" (that is as the pudding dessert)

so now you have to wait about 20 seconds before anything happenes and then Google broadcast "do you want the desert Melissa"  (Promounced as the sandy dez-ert).  it now never gets her name right and often can't understand what we are saying.

It has gone from usefull to really, really, really uselessly annoying.

Can you come and take it away please?

What’s the latest update?

So what I'm seeing here is that it's time to transition my household to Alexa and Fire TV......

Seems rather expensive but I considered this myself.

I’m considering it as well BUT I’m hoping Google gets their act together since we are already so invested - Hubs, doorbells, camera, etc are all google. We’d have to start over with Alexa products and unless Google is going to refund these hubs that’s just too expensive

I've already started. I got the Echo 5 a few days ago during the Black Friday sales at significant discount and I'm back to broadcasting in my own voice! I also already have a Firestick which I also bought on sale. Everything Amazon is really cheap when you get them on sale.

Good for you. I lay just do the same after the holidays.

I'm sure the migration to amazon will be worth the headache.

Thanks Muddi! We miss hearing our little ones voices on the broadcast.

You keep saying your team is ‘on top of it’ but we are not seeing any fixes. We need this corrected ASAP! My household has 5 devices that lost 90% of their usefulness when this feature stopped working. Are you going to either fix it or give me back my money?

Any additional updates?

This is absolutely terrible feature. When can we expect a rollback or atleast an option to choose if we want to keep voice recording for broadcasting. Thanks

Any updates on this? We are tired of the automated voice.

Folks, don't expect complaints to be properly answered. We are not Google's customer, that is the intelligence community. We just subsidize the research and development.

Thank you. Please confirm this is an issue that needs to be fixed on your (google’s) end (i.e., we should not be digging through the settings ourselves to try and fix). Thanks.

Hey there! Any updates?

This doesn’t make any sense. I’ve been in and around technology for over 20 years and a switch back or roll back should never take this long! @GarrettDS  @Markjosephp

It's working now!

Now it is an entirely new problem.
Now it takes a very long time for Google Home Minis to respond to voice commands.

Google has really gone downhill over the past few years. Every complaint I’ve ever filed has not been fixed. The system is getting so defective it’s a joke to use.

The speakers started broadcasting correctly for a few days and now they’re back to the garbage assistant voice. How hard is it to record a 5-second clip and play it back?!!!! There are other features that have become basically useless too.

All my friends have made the switch to Amazon Echo. I’m looking at Black Friday sales now…

Two ways to fix this:

1) spend money to get Siri or echos. I originally picked Google because of better sound quality and broadcasting (believe it or not, it was better on Google when it first came out), but removing broadcast is over the line and was a major substantive feature of the google home devices when I purchased them.

2) See if any law firm is willing to organize a class action lawsuit. Google has basically rendered devices useless for one of their primary features and I imagine this feature was one reason many customers picked these products. Anyone, please reply if you have seen any class action lawsuit notices for this issue. I normally do not join such things but this would be worth it as we invested significantly into the Google Home ecosystem (15+ devices).

I'm in the same boat, was Alexa and transferred everything to google. So much money wasted if you see anything I'll gladly join in because this is a huge slap to the face by Google

I have mitigated this issue somewhat, by setting up routines that broadcast a preset text for an English keyword as a trigger. I can say now like "Hey Google, second", and it will announce "(second-born name) please find your daddy" without the usual loops to hop and quite fast. It does not work with "call (name)", as it interprets that as a Meet call, and setting up the keyword as the name does not work either, as it again interprets it as a call. I found no way to make the announcement in our language, so either you come up with something that sounds phonetically similar, or you teach your kids what it means, in case they do not understand already. This allows only a limited form of messages, but I could cover 95% of our use cases.
