YouTube TV isn't installed at the moment

When I say "Hey Google.  Watch ABC on Kitchen TV"  (My Chromecast w/Google TV), Google responds with "YouTube TV isn't installed at the moment" and it launches YTTV on the TV from the Play Store, where I have to option to open YTTV.

Previously, this command would have launched YTTV & switched to the requested channel.  I have the same issue with Hub (Gen2) & TV in my office

Hey folks,

I see your messages and I apologize for the delay. This is still actively being worked on by the team, I don't have any other information to provide at this moment. I'm going to pin this response as the "answer" so other folks can see the acknowledgement if they visit the thread.

Thank you for the patience,
Kelan

Hey Kelan - care to respond why it takes an act of god or a group of members to hassle and complain before anything gets looked at?  For the monthly amount we’re all paying mandates a better response time and transparency. Not even the legacy cable providers were this awful!

Also, I love it when the support team blames me for not having it set up correctly. They never believed me until this group all complained simultaneously.

Google support is a dog and pony show if you know how to plug in anything more complicated than a floor lamp. If there is a problem, it's always a bug, not user error. It's never worth your time to call.

Its been almost a week. Is there any update on this.

I'm glad somebody finally responded. Better late than never.

But I'm in the boat where I've got this system specially so that a blind woman in her mid 90s can still control a TV. She's paying $80+a month for YouTube TV, that she cannot control, and Google can't seem to fix. It's been an issue for a month, it's been a week since you've noticed this, and there still isn't a resolution.

I called customer support, and they said it's not Google home. I'm currently on hold after they've transferred me to YouTube TV.

When I speak with YouTubeTV and inevitably do not get a fix (and probably an attempt to transfer me back to Google home), I am going to cancel my YouTubeTV service and try a different provider. I may have to buy an Alexa, but that's fine if it works. I'm be telling YouTubeTV why I'm cancelling.

It's honestly getting to the point with the lack of QA/ QC, I'm not sure why I'm still using so many Google products.

I have the same circumstance.  Not myself, but setup for several other people/households that have problems using a remote for various reasons.  Third time in the last calendar year Google has broken the ability to control YouTube TV via voice.   This instance has lasted way longer though.  Can't get any support from Google regardless of which avenue I try - YouTube TV support, Chromecast support, Nest Hub support -  they all just point the finger elsewhere and offer no help.  Clearly Google doesn't care at all.

If you find another option with Alexa or whatever that works, please detail here.  When the Google ecosystem is working, I haven't found anything that works as well for controlling live TV.   I haven't tried Alexa with Hulu live recently though, so I need to check that out again.  Their support page claims it works, https://help.hulu.com/article/hulu-alexa-voice-commands

I have the same problem as everyone else. Pretty frustrating that something that used to work so well now doesn't work at all.

It has been two weeks since your last reply, any update?

September 12, 2024.   Hello, "YouTube TV is not installed at the moment" error Google Chromecast HD!  Unfortunately, I'm still having the same issue with YouTube TV app Google HD error on two  different TVs and Google Chromecast HD devices and despite  the latest HD firmware update that brings the software up to version “STTE.240615.007”.  Unfortunately it did not fix anything! Please read.  Google Assistant app responds with " YouTube TV is not installed at the moment" over over and over…I am a disabled user and rely solely on voice commands and Google Assistant to operate my TV and devices. For me is not a trivial thing  when my technology fails so often.   I'm using the latest Google Assistant app and latest Google app updates.

Oddly enough, this issue does not occur with my 2022 Sony KD-50X85J using the same devices i.e. Google Nest Mini 2nd generation display. Probably because there have been no new updates on my on my Sony KD-50X85J TV from Sony!

Yes, why not provide an answer as to what is going on.

As a conspiracy theory… is this a way for Google to force a subset of us from chromecast to their upcoming (late September) new streamer product???

This would imply that Google cares about that product. They don't care about anything other than their ad and data vacuuming business. Every other product is a means to that end.

How **bleep**ty!!! Shame on you Google!  I'm all for upgrades but you still need to make sure your current devices work properly.    I have 4 TV's I guess that's 400 bucks. NOT COOL!

OK, its been 4 weeks, and clearly the moderators have gone silent, and there is no resolution in sight.  Is anybody that is having this issue aware of any legal/law options that we may have available to us?  Honestly, what options do we have, at this point, to make our voices heard?

I switched to my alexas and firesticks

Did you get YouTube TV voice commands to work with your alexa/firestick, or did you have to switch to Hulu Live?  I have an alexa device but not a firestick.  Thinking of picking one up though because I need to find a solution.  Wondering if I will also have to switch to Hulu Live though instead of using YouTube TV.

Thanks for any details you can provide.

I finally heard a reply from technical support:

It's a known issue. They have found the bug in the system. They are starting to narrow down the problem, but aren't 100% sure yet.

Wow imagine that! A bug is creating it....it's likely with Google Assistant... Given that is the common thread...

Thank G-d.pleaee keep us updated.  I have two devices that this is occurring on now 1. Google Chromecast 2. Google TV just bought  specifically because it says " works with Google Assistant" Not! My assistant keeps saying I'm sorry "YouTubeTv isn't installed right now" when I ask it to play  a channel...But then it launches YouTube TV app and it shows me the open and uninstall button.! Maddening given the amount of money delivered to the technology and service.

That's exactly what all of mine do as well trickywoo2.

@kelanfromgoogle Whats the word my guy?  We are approaching week 6 or 7, I have honestly lost count.

60+ replies in this forum alone, we are owed something.  Even a formal statement of some kind explaining what is going on would buy you plenty of time.  Just knowing something was happening would buy you plenty of time.  Being silent is doing you no favors.

Please update us, we have been patient, we have given Google plenty of money and devotion by buying your products, all we are asking is a little return of information at the very least.  Also an understanding of what is the plan to "make things right" with us.

I completely agree. Forcing us to throw out this $50 device a d spend 100 bucks on the  new one us unexceotable.  Maybe we need to form a class action law suit?

@kelanfromgoogle I am not sure I am comfortable labeling that an answer, considering it means nothing.  "This" is still actively being worked on...doesn't tell us anything, I have no more understanding of what is going on than the day it first happened.  "This" is the effect, what is the Cause?  The Cause would be more of the answer, then information about what is being done to remedy the effect would be helpful.  Again, 60+ replies in this chat means we need more than "This" is happening.  I would be fired from my job if something this big was happening and the only information I provided was "This" is being worked on.

DON'T PIN THIS AS THE ANSWER!  It's not!  This will cause this thread to go dead.  Just fix it already.  Maybe Google needs to hire back all the employees it got rid of. How can you still be selling these when they don't work???

Kelan...any updates? How about a workaround? SHORT of lifting a remote control...because isn't the PURPOSE of Google assistant so we can CONTROL OUR DEVICES WITH VOICE Commands?

Still waiting on google cameras update for live viewing. Will comment on every thread your in. Until it’s fixed.

How can this be pinned as the answer when it's still broken?

Telling us that it's "still actively being worked on by the team" is *NOT* an answer! 😡

Tell the "coders" to fix their code & stop breaking stuff that already works! I mean, OMG! There's a very old saying that maybe they don't know, so I'll say it here for them to read... "IF IT AIN'T BROKE, DON'T `FIX` IT!" And to add to that, "FIX WHAT YOU BROKE!"

@kelanfromgoogle  Could you please explain why this topic is marked "Answered" -- the "answer" neither provides a fix nor says "won't fix" -- just says work is still in progress.  I appreciate the updated status but it doesn't seem to me the topic should be marked "Answered" when the isssue is still open -- "Answered" status implies there is some resolution.  Should we start a new thread if we're still experiencing the issue (I don't think you want that, do you?)

Thanks in advance!

Folks,

I started this thread, so indulge me as I weigh in here.

It's annoying as hell that Google breaks stuff and takes forever to fix their stuff, but for the purposes of this thread, Google did answer my question:  they broke something and may (or may not) fix it. I don't like the answer, but it is what it is.

Marking the thread as "answered" does not imply that the issue is resolved.

This was certainly started by you so I will not fight you on this, if you feel you question was answered then so be it.  I just think there is a responsibility to clarify what is "broke" at the very least.  I get saying that something is still being worked on, but explaining what is broke would really be the answer in my mind.

Like going to a mechanic and them telling you "It's broke but we are looking into it" is different than "The warning like you saw is in reference to your break pads failing to engage, we are looking into it".

I don't think we are asking too much and can even pinpoint the day this started to better determine what was changed that caused this.  Personally, I think we are purposely being placed in the dark, and I am happy to be proven wrong.

I'm just adding my name to this list. It's been happening for months like with everyone else and was one of the most useful features when it worked. Completely insane that it has not been fixed in all this time, and starting to assume it won't be with the discontinuation of Chromecast devices

I have the same issue on a new Hisense 43A6N TV just added to a room. I do not have this problem with a Vizio and a Sony TV. I'm looking forward to a timely resolution.

It has been over a month since the "answer" was posted and it still doesn't work. I guess Google doesn't have enough resources to apply to the problem.
