CCwGTV 4K update to Android 14 broke TV stream playback

gurabli
Community Member

My CCwGTV 4K received the latest update UTTC.241218.004, now I have Android 14.

This update broke playback of direct live TV stream in all the apps. It looks that all the h.264 FullHD streams are affected. The playback is like slow motion with judder and audio out of sync. All these apps worked perfectly fine before the update. Many users report the same (Reddit).

Source is DVB-C, TS stream from my cable TV provider.

Is this a known problem from Google's side? All the devices still on Android 12 are perfect.

My Homatics Box R 4k Plus has ATV12 (kernel version 5.4.242-ab5221) and now I checked, there is no update to ATV14, maybe they discontinued ATV14 before I bought it.

Homatics has indeed announced that they are going to release ATV 14 soon. So far I've been very satisfied with my Box R 4k Plus with ATV 12, which I swapped to after Google update.

Anyone out there with an updated Homatics watching DVB streams? Please report.

>Thomson is an option but I don't like that it only has 100 Mbps ethernet.
100 Mbps is quite all right for a streaming device, IMHO. Even high end LG OLED TVs have but 100 M Ethernet.

100 Mbps is definitely fine for general use but there could be cases (e.g. local video over the network) where higher bitrates are needed. If Homatics and others are offering higher then they will be my preference. That is, if I can find suppliers that will guarantee ATV12 out of the box

I found an option to block updates on my Thomson and Homatics, and that's exactly what I've done. I also found this option on my two CCwGTV 4K models, which were damaged after the update to the ATV14. I don't know if this option was available on the ATV12 before the update to the ATV14.

As far as I know, you can only block updates from the Play Store. You can't block software updates, otherwise I would have blocked them on my box a long time ago.

Where do I need to go in the settings to disable system updates? I also have a Thomson streaming box and don't want it to suddenly update its software automatically.

It still runs on Android 12 and is intended to stay on Android 12 for as long as possible.

As long as my apps work, I don't need Android 14.

Settings - Device Settings - Google (almost at the bottom) - System Services Update and disable the slider there

I can't find it on the Thomson Streaming Box Plus 270. I have under Settings System, but I can't find Google there

After all this mess, I'm pretty much considering nvidia shield tv pro. I know it's expensive but still a power horse (likely still the one with best performance) and very unlikely to ever update to A14. And I was actually considering the new Google Tv streamer...

I personally would never spend that much on a streaming box. Anyway it looks like they've figured out what's causing the issue (going by the latest edit) so hopefully we get a fix soon

Oh, haven't noticed the update. Hopefully yes, we a get fix soon

I feel the same way. Next time, you should let the customers decide for themselves whether they want to install software updates or not. Hope dies last.

A total disappointment for the Google team - this is the last device I bought from you.

Well they wrote an update in Their post about work and effort They are putting now to resolve the problem, BUT STILL it's a shame and a slap shot for Us.

I have the same problem with slow video and out of sync audio. Unfortunately, it appeared after the update to Android 14... When can you expect this fix? There is no way to downgrade the system, so I hope that google will release updates this month.

I am also having H.264 problems. Cant stream decently on stremio weird picture stutter, slow loading weird sounds. Moonlight/sunshine stream doesnt work anymore. Keep getting error: this device or rom doesnt support hardware accelerated h.264 playbac. Everything worked just fine couple weeks ago.

Still nothing, too much time. We demand repairing product for what we paid! This is not funny joke...

Worst technical support ever. That's unbelievable, still nothing after more than half a year is unacceptable

Similar issue with AV1 OPUS codex; I thought I was going mad.  This used to work before; sadly not surprised to find some poorly coded update has broken it.

Absolutely unbelievable disastrous problem of this Android 14 update! How can Google release such firmware to all users while still carry the basic H.264 decoding issues??? Unprofessional. The problem just almost make my CCwGTV unworkable since  my majority scenario is based on the H.264 streaming. The worst experience ever.

Bluetooth pairing (headset) has issues with CCwGTV HD device since Android 14 update.  Never any issues with Android 12.
Can you guys please fix this?  Thanks.

Finally, I've found this thread that explains the problems I've been experiencing for the past couple of months. Can't wait for a fix.

At least we now know that Google is working towards a fix. From my experience, I can tell CCWGTV HD started having this issue more than two years ago. There's a reddit thread discussing the issue. This was still under Android 12 and was somehow introduced with an update of the OS.

Took Google long enough to find the root cause and fix the issue. I'm hoping the fix gets released for both versions of the Chromecast, since they're both affected (HD and 4K).

No they are not, they are blaming on the apps we use. Not only they don't fix it they treat clients like idiots. It was definitely my last product from Google. The support is a joke.

Hi

Since the update I can't use Google TV stick anymore for IPTV.

Is there going to be a fix for this ? The h264 code is not matching anymore , the video is stuttering and not marching the audio.

Dear Google

If you won't fix this be assured this google TV stick and the pixel 9 phone have been my last products from you. This is unbelievably unprofessional customer service. you destroyed my tv experience with a crazy bad update.

Any news about the promise update?

Espionage724

UTTC.241218.008.H1.13427172 and CCwGTV 4K also experiencing similar reports (laggy video in most apps). Seems to also break Amazon Prime Video app (trying to play any Live TV channel results in a quick "Something went wrong").

Flagship soft-bricked via software update and consumer-side unfixable; guess I'm going back to DIY boxes.

It seems to me that Google is fighting IPTV. And these inconveniences are intentional.

@GoogleNestTeam its surely Your last chance time to fix this issue, there are many more of us outside this forum who have such problem, and still can't use Their stick as it should work.

Clock is ticking, every next day means another client less.

@GoogleNestTeam

Are you kidding us or what is wrong with you ?

Fix this issue immediately!!!!!

Or you lose a lot of customers.

Does the new Google Pixel also have this level of support?

Exactly my thoughts. Need to replace my Samsung Galaxy and was considering the new Pixel. Probably not a good idea.

I have a pixel 9. Basically a very good value for money. But after this mess, and if they don't fix this until September/October, I'm goingto boycott Google.

Pixel and Chromecast are totally different departments and it is a known fact that Google has cut resources to Chromecast/GTV Streamer/Android TV. I don't think we should begin talking about phones on this thread, and threatening to move to products from other companies won't help either. Rather we need to provide the devs with specific details relating to playback of interlaced DVB-T2. It would be helpful if Google could provide another progess update. They claim they have identified the root cause (edit 8/5 on the pinned post), but this was also the case on another Google TV Streamer 4k thread where the same issue was reported and when they rolled out a "fix" (January/February ATV14 update), it did not resolve the issue.

Afer upgrade on android 14 not work eternet over USB , also got the problem with eARC. sometimes it doesn't recognize the external UHD receiver. Have to switch the tv off and on to get it working.

I suggest to report on another thread, this is focused on playback issues, namely DVB-T2.

USB Ethernet worked fine on my CCwGTV with Android 14 (while having the stuttering video issue).

When will this be fixed. My device is now kinda useless without it..

GuillaumeS

There's no press covering of this issue. Can't we try to leverage influencers on this? That would perhaps push Google to at least communicate
