My CCwGTV 4K received the latest update UTTC.241218.004, now I have Android 14.
This update broke playback of direct live TV stream in all the apps. It looks that all the h.264 FullHD streams are affected. The playback is like slow motion with judder and audio out of sync. All these apps worked perfectly fine before the update. Many users report the same (Reddit).
Source is DVB-C, TS stream from my cable TV provider.
Is this a known problem from Google's side? All the devices still on Android 12 are perfect.

I suggest to report on another thread, this is focused on playback issues, namely DVB-T2.

There's no press covering of this issue. Can't we try to leverage influencers on this? That would perhaps push Google to at least communicate

Here is a quick press release you can forward to all tech influencers that could help us:
Android 14 Update Breaks Live TV on Chromecast with Google TV – Google Leaves European Consumers Without Solution
Since the start of 2025, Chromecast with Google TV 4K devices updated to Android 14 have been unable to properly play back live TV streams. The root cause is clear: Android 14 broke support for H.264 interlaced video, a format widely used in Europe for digital terrestrial (DVB-T) and cable television (DVB-C).
Before the update, everything worked flawlessly. After the update, live TV is essentially unusable.
Despite weeks of user reports and an active support thread on Google’s own community forums (link here), Google has not acknowledged the severity of the problem, provided a workaround, or committed to a timeline for a fix.
Key facts:
The issue affects all live TV streams using H.264 interlaced content, which covers the majority of broadcast TV in Europe.
Streaming apps relying on these feeds — including TV network apps and IPTV solutions — no longer function correctly.
This problem is not due to broadcasters or app developers; it is a regression introduced by the Android 14 update itself.
Users purchased Chromecast with Google TV as a reliable streaming device, but now a core advertised use-case is broken.
Why this matters:
Millions of European households still rely on DVB-T and DVB-C live TV. Breaking such a fundamental standard without warning or remedy has left users with hardware that cannot fulfill its advertised purpose. The lack of official response further undermines consumer trust.
Consumers are asking Google to:
1. Release a software update urgently restoring H.264 interlaced playback.
2. Provide transparent communication regarding the status of the fix.
3. Commit to proper quality assurance on updates that affect essential features.
Tech journalists, influencers, and digital rights advocates are encouraged to amplify this issue and hold Google accountable for failing to support a core standard of broadcast television in Europe.

I don't believe they'll fix this.
And that's why I got rid of Google Streamer.

It's been a month since you announced the fix, and I'm wondering if you have any plans for when it should be available.

I have the same problem in Melbourne Australia, both of my gccwtv worked perfectly before the a14 update now all DBV-T2 HD channels and 1 SD channel plays in slow motion, shame on you Google your commitment to your customers is appalling, looks like I may as well bin the gccwtv and to think I contemplated purchasing the new streamer, I’m now looking to UNGOOGLE myself, so glad to be sending this on my 10 year old iPad.

Google is actively fighting TV piracy. If someone thinks it is an error or coincident, they must be naive.

I use it totally legally, my cable provider gives DVB-C access for my subscription.

DVB-T2 is legal.

Are you a specialist from Google? I don't know what's going on, don't say.

Non legit streams are always transcoded and deinterlaced. Only legit broadcasts use interlaced content.

Not always. Some providers have 1:1 streams.

Still no update to fix it ... really thinking to trash my chromecast devices ...

Buy an Apple TV, you won't have any interference. I'm not an Apple fan, but this is the only device that doesn't have any interference.

Google just spit on Us... well done.

Another one affected here. Still no solution?

Done with this issue. All google streamer/ccgtv hardware I own has now been sold off and replaced with Android 12 devices which work with h264 streaming. Never touching google devices again.

Oddly enough, when I tried again the other day after months of having given up, my two small capacity (16GB) flash/thumb drives are now recognized as external storage. However, the main flash drive I had purchased to use specifically with my CCWGTV 4K, which worked flawlessly before the Android TV 14 update, still doesn't work. I am still receiving the same exact error message "Device has been safely elected". The drive in question is a 256GB Samsung Fit+ USB thumb/flash drive. It works on all other devices, even my Shield Pro 2019 running Android 11, without issue. I've attempted multiple different file systems and allocation unit sizes during the drive reformatting(s) ... eg: FAT32, EXFAT, etc...to no avail. Obviously I can't use a small 16GB flash drive as my external storage since the space would be taken up in no time. Google please fix this issue. Even with all the resources available to Google y'all still can't fix this simple issue or at the very minimum revert the functionality back to that which we had in Android TV 12 concerning external storage being detected by the Chromecast with Google TV 4K.

I have ordered today a strong s3 pro streaming box. I don't believe Google wants to fix this after such while and I don't think this is professional to release an update to kill the streaming experience of so many clients without proper testing priorly.
Google: I have a Google Chromecast 1st Gen, the Chromecast with Google TV 2021 Gen, and a pixel 9 phone.
That were definitely my last products I was buying from your brand. You literally spit in the face of your customers.
I'll sell both chromesticks and replace soon the pixel 9 with a different phone.
F..k you.
