Google is releasing a new firmware upgrade for Chromecast with Google TV. This is the Android 14 update.
But this firmware includes a serious problem: it lacks H.264 hardware video decoding!
This breaks any use of this device for Digital TV services, as many of them use this codec. We do not know if this will be reversed in the future. We have no information about whether this is a bug or a feature. Therefore we will have to stay (forever) on Android version 12.
You have been warned! There is no downgrade available.

Nothing has changed for the better, my chromecast still has the same errors as before.

La actualización a Android 14 todavía sigue con problemas. Para eso que la eliminen definitivamente y miren una manera de revertir a Android 12 desde sus servidores, porque qué desastre de empresa. De mal en peor.

I'm still wondering why one would simply decide to drop support for a certain codec when it was working fine before and that the device is able to handle it ... 🤦🏼♂️

Google, please fix the issue with h264 video playback. A workaround is to install the ffmpeg add-on in Kodi and then disable hardware acceleration. Then it seems as if Kodi can process h264 streams from tvheadend again. I've only been able to test it for a few minutes.

Still no patch? I have 3 chromecasts and only one has android14 and this issue. Please Google!

Maybe we should contact some tech medias and explain them that Google is doing some planned obsolescense with the Chromecast in order to force consumers to buy the latest one ..

The latest one (Streamer) isn't that much better, has a lot of bugs too.
And seriously, after this who would trust them? And why?
I just bought a Homatics R 4K Plus box and works amazing (with proper firmware).

Still can't believe that after all this time no one from the dev noticed all of this and published a patch...
