I have the same problem, it hangs at 0% while updating.

I only get the chrome logo for a second and then it turns black. I have sound and can cast, but without picture. I've moved it to another TV and tried. Another hdmi slot and tried. Did the unplug for 30 sec, 1 min, even a whole evening. Tried pressing the button to reset. Tried going to home and doing a reset and factory reset. Still the same. Last night I left it on for 6 hours to see if it's updating something, but this morning it's still just blinking. Oh, I tried USB to tv directly and USB to power dock into mains. Still the same.

I have the exact same issue, have tried everything they recommend it is now getting really annoying seeing the same useless advice

It seems Google has a problem with the latest update. But my situation is slightly different. Trying to do the Update it changes after a while and states  „Network Problem“. But mine is Chromecast 3. Generation. Reset and rerboot doesn‘t help. 😕

Seems like Google doesn't actually care if it works or not..Maybe we can only get the meta update now 🤔

Same issue. Tried factory resetting thrice, is there any way to revert back to normal?

Kindly give solution soon.

I have also tried factory restore from Home App. Still not working. Bought a new TV and also tried in on there, it's a UHD 4k and still doesn't work.

Will this be fixed with a new software update? This problem started cuz of an update 2 weeks ago. How can I force update my Chromecast?

BigPin

Wait. Now it's not blinking!

It shows up like this...

Have you tried plugging it out and then back in again into the hdmi?

I have just tried .I've again, factory reset. Shows Chrome logo, then blank. Will connect and play sound only, but no picture.

Maybe we share the same problem. Just need to wait for another update somehow.

Update:

I've tried putting it into another TV, it's the Chromecast Logo and then full black. The blinking orange light is back.

Later tried plugging it into the same old TV. Instead of the previous white light, its now the orange light again.

I'm better off buying a new BBK realme Google TV Stick or Xiaomi Mi TV Stick. Will recommend the same. (Chromecast with Google TV not available in my region)

Maybe Google will never fix this issue...

Hey there Eagle-eye,

I'm sorry to hear that the issue is still persisting! I'd be happy to look a little deeper into this issue. Now, you mentioned that the LED light is blinking red/orange, usually this means that the Chromecast is applying an update. However, if the screen is black and the blinking is still occurring, give these steps a try:

  1. Unplug your Chromecast from the power source, wait about one minute, and then plug it back in.
  2. Use the HDMI extender provided with your Chromecast device if you have one.
  3. Plug your Chromecast into another TV.
  4. Perform a factory reset.

Let me know if that helps at all, I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Jeran

Sorry for not mentioning, but the problem still exists. May I know when will the next firmware update come for the Chromecast 1st gen?

Hey there BigPin,

I would give the steps that I gave to Eagle-eye a try, and see if that resolves the issue. If the issue persists, we can try a few more things.

Sadly, I do not have any release schedule when it comes to firmware updates for the Chromecast devices. However, if you had any more questions, please let me know.

Best regards,

Jeran

Umm

This is how mine started....

like 1 1/2 months back, there was a firmware update for my Chromecast 2nd gen. While updating, my phone simply thought of disconnecting the wifi. Which resulted my Chromecast to get a half updated software. That’s when the blinking and black screen appeared.

A week back I just tried switching on my Chromecast out of belief, it started working as it should be!! No blinking and full streaming capabilities. I just left it out like that, and boom.... a power outage (lol). I waited for 2 days trying thrice to do the same “hit and trial” method. it worked the fourth time. I wanted to be smart so I factory reseted. It really worked!

Now there’s no blinking orange light or black screen. I would recommend you to randomly booting up like this... I mean... hope you still use it.

Thank you.
