Chromecast Remote is useless

Bought a Chromecast Ultra.  The Chromecast works (kinda... shuts off after about 30 minutes inexplicably, but that's a different post).

The remote is nothing more than a useless piece of plastic that has an LED light that is on and sometimes pulses.

I've tried everything from pairing to factory resetting the Chromecast.  Nothing works. 

I'm not a newbie, IT pro that has been in the industry 25 years, so this is really stumping me.  At this point, I think the thing is simply defective.  Am I missing something obvious?  Necessary?  An annoying requirement that doesn't make sense?

The Chromecast voice remote was designed for Chromecast with Google TV. You won't be able to use it with any of the previous models of Chromecast.

I received the remote WITH the Chromecast Ultra, in the same box.

Where did you buy your Chromecast from and what country are you located in? Do you have a photo or two of the packaging? Is it possible it's not genuine?

The reason I ask is like I said, the voice remote only works with Chromecast with Google TV, no other model, so it makes no sense for it to be included with Chromecast Ultra.

Hello Jennifer.  I gave up and put my old Chromecast in after the best help provided was "check the packaging".

Yes, it's legit.  I just couldn't get it to work.  What's more though is that I found my fire TV remote controlled my Chromecast Ultra too, but all in all, the Ultra doesn't compare to the regular Chromecast.

Understood. The Voice Remote will not work with the Chromecast Ultra as it is only intended to be used for the Chromecast with Google TV, but you can still use your Chromecast Ultra even it doesn't have a remote.
