Chromecast and iPad

I would like to stream from my iPad to Chromecast, as I can do from my Android mobile phone. I've been trying for several hours now and haven't found a way. There are all sorts of instructions online, none of which work. The main problem is that when I select "Add device" in Google Home, I'm asked to scan a code that I don't have. Presumably because the packaging is no longer available. It looks like there is now no way to stream from the iPad to Chromecast. Am I seeing this correctly? And if it does work, what do I have to do? Can someone help me before I throw my Chromecast in the bin?

Once your Chromecast is setup, it's setup, you don't set it up with each device you want to cast to it from, it's not like Bluetooth. Any device connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your Chromecast can cast to it.

Are you trying to cast from a cast supported app (e.g., YouTube) or trying to cast your iPad screen?
