Chromecast connected to wifi, but not internet.

Hi,

My Chromecast has been working fine but all of a sudden it boots to the home screen, but there is a broken image icon next to the wifi network, the time does not appear on the home screen and I can't find the cast image on apps. I have tried resetting to factory the Chromecast and the modem. I have another Chromecast that I plugged in and works fine. What could be causing this? Bad firmware update? Can I roll back to previous firmware? I searched and could see there is no way to fix it but others have found it has fixed itself at some point, possibly by future firmware upgrades?

Thanks.

Hi Miikeboyle,

Thanks for posting in the community!

I’m so sorry to hear that your Chromecast is connected to WiFi but has no internet. No worries; I’m here to help! Just to get started, I’d like to confirm some information with you. Can you please help me answer the next questions?

  • What is the model of your Chromecast?
  • How strong is your WiFi connection where the Chromecast is located? Please provide your upload and download speeds.
  • Can your Chromecast find or detect other networks?
  • Do the other devices connect to your WiFi network without any difficulty or slow connection?
  • Does the Chromecast appear offline in the Google Home app?
  • Is the Wi-Fi router or access point within a reasonable range (1 to 15 meters) between 3 and 50 feet from the Nest devices? Are you using a 5GHz or 2.4GHz band?

This information will help me guide you through the troubleshooting process.

In the meantime, if you have more questions for me, feel free to reply to this post. I'll be happy to assist further!

Best regards,

Nery.
