Chromecast icon has been replaced with airplay icon to cast video in chrome browser

Have resently switched from Samsung to Iphone. First couple of weeks the chromecast icon was available in my chrome browser to cast videos from e.g newspapers etc. The icon has at som time switched to airplay icon for Apple TV casting. The chromecast icon only appear on apps, like Netflix, HBO etc. The phone setup uses chrome as deafult browser. All Airplay settings has been turned off (and restarted the phone afterwards). I have tried to look at the settings in the browser, but can't seem to find where i can choose witch casting device i want to use in chrome? How can i get the chromecast icon back in the chrome browser. Have several different generations of chromecasts in my home.

It's possible that the Chromecast icon may have disappeared from your Chrome browser due to a recent update or change in settings. Here are a few steps you can try to get the Chromecast icon back in your Chrome browser:

  1. Make sure your Chromecast is properly set up and connected to your Wi-Fi network.

  2. Open the Google Home app on your iPhone and make sure your Chromecast is listed and connected.

  3. Open the Chrome browser on your iPhone and navigate to a website that has a video you want to cast.

  4. Tap on the three dots in the top right corner of the Chrome browser and select "Cast".

  5. You should now see a list of available casting devices, including your Chromecast. Select your Chromecast from the list and the video should start casting.

If you still don't see the Chromecast icon in your Chrome browser, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the Google Home app and the Chrome browser. You can also try resetting your Chromecast to its factory settings and setting it up again.

It's worth noting that not all websites support casting to Chromecast, so it's possible that the website you're trying to cast from may not have this feature enabled. In this case, you may need to use an alternative method to cast the video, such as using the Chromecast built-in feature in the app.

Hi folks,

Thanks for your help here, @Cal26.

@Esptak, I hope you've found the answer you're looking for. Just to add, the Chrome browser for mobile devices isn’t really a cast-enabled app. It’s the website that has the casting plug-ins, giving it a chance to be cast. It now boils down to the website (if it has cast plug-ins), the device used (iOS, Android, etc.), and the network. If the website you’re trying to cast has a cast-enabled app version, better use it instead. Let me know if you have questions.

Thanks,

Kimy
