Chromecast keeps pausing

While watching TV using chromecast, it keeps pausing for 1<2 minutes during live TV streaming, then plays again. Does this a couple times an hour. Very annoying.

Is this fixable?

Hi @Addzzr

Chromecast itself isn't designed to directly control live TV playback, so it likely isn't the culprit behind the pausing. The issue probably lies with the live TV streaming app you're using on Chromecast. Here are some things you can try to fix the annoying pausing during live TV:

Check Your Internet Connection:

  • Weak Signal: A weak or unstable internet connection can cause buffering and pausing during live streams. Run an internet speed test to see if your download speed meets the minimum requirements for your live TV streaming service.
  • Wi-Fi Interference: Wi-Fi interference from other devices or crowded networks can disrupt streaming. Try restarting your router and modem, or consider using a wired ethernet connection to Chromecast if possible for a more stable connection.

Live TV App Issues:

  • App Update: Ensure you have the latest version of the live TV streaming app installed on your Chromecast. Outdated apps might have bugs that have been fixed in newer versions.
  • App Settings: Some live TV apps might have built-in quality or data usage settings. Check if there are options to adjust video quality or disable features that might be causing buffering.

If for some reason you still have the same issue you can call our customer service line for further assistance.

Mario.

I have multiple chromecast devices in my home.  (About 7)  I haven't checked them all but only 1 is still good.  The rest are freezing up constantly.  Two of them have lived within 6 feet of the Ubiquiti APs.  No signal or network change, so I'm also attributing my issues to the update.

Hi @FouAmour,

I hope you are well, there are a couple of troubleshooting steps you can try to fix the freezing Chromecast devices without necessarily attributing it to the update just yet. Here are some things to consider:

General Troubleshooting:

  1. Reboot: The classic tech support advice, but it works sometimes! Reboot your Chromecasts, router, and casting device (phone, tablet, or computer).
  2. Power Source: Make sure the Chromecasts are plugged into a proper power source and not a flickering USB port on the TV.
  3. Software Updates: Ensure both your Chromecast devices and casting device software are updated to the latest versions.

Network Issues:

  1. Wi-Fi Strength: Even though you haven't noticed a signal change, try moving a Chromecast closer to the router to see if a stronger connection improves stability.
  2. Network Congestion: With 7 Chromecasts, there might be some network congestion. Try pausing downloads or other bandwidth-heavy activities on your network.
  3. Restart Router: Sometimes a simple router restart can clear up network glitches.

Chromecast Specific:

  1. Clear Cache: A full cache can lead to performance issues. Try clearing the cache on the Chromecast experiencing problems. (Steps may vary depending on the Chromecast model.)
  2. Factory Reset: If nothing else works, consider a factory reset on the problematic Chromecasts. This will erase all settings and data, so make sure you have any login info handy.

If for some reason you still have problems don't hesitate to let me know.

Regards,

Mario.

4 of my devices have the issue.  I even factory reset one twice.  No other device suffers from these freezes.  I work in the IT field on Linux servers throughout the day and I have yet to have this on my work laptop, desktop, or any of my 6 wifi cameras.  I understand your desire to defend the update, but there is not much else it could be.

I must also add I did enable developer tools and limited background processes to 4.  It caused the freezing to occur 4min and 48 seconds into a video.  Then at 9min 33 seconds.  The pattern continued until the end of my attempts to watch the video.
