Recently when I try to cast Youtube from the google chrome web browser the chromecast gives an error. "Something went wrong. Try again or cast something new."
The browser says 'Failed to cast, please try again'.
Every other video producing site that I've tried is working so it is bizarre that a google product is the only one that isn't working.

Hi @glasseyes,
Thanks for your reply.
Could you please confirm that the casting extension is installed in your browser? If so, please let me know if your Chromecast 2nd gen is listed in the cast extension. If the issue persists, to ensure that the problem is not with your computer, please try casting using another device.
Please keep me updated.
Cheers,
Jonathan

What do you mean 'casting extension'? It is the Google Chrome browser and it includes Cast by default, under the 'Cast, save and share' menu.
The device was listed under the cast menu, both the one with just its name, and the one that only connects to 'certain video sites'.
As if that wasn't bad enough, this morning (since I last used it on Sat), the chromecast has stopped accepting anything, the normal device in the casting menu wasn't there, only the one that only connects to 'certain video sites'.
So I tried resetting the chromecast to factory settings and now Google Home on my Android phone won't connect to it, so I can't use it at all. Google Home connects to the chromecast's wifi but then doesn't go any further and times out.
