Issues with NEST Camera after update

tmor

I have always been able to view my nest cameras via any of my 5 chromecast's. Now all of a sudden it says not supported. After talking with google support they told me "after the update it is no longer supported". Seem like a scam since they just released a new streaming device and are removing features form an item that was purchased with that feature advertised. In fact google still says it is possible on the support pages. Does anyone know if there is a fix for this?

Hi tmor,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that you couldn’t continue viewing your cameras through your 5 Chromecasts, and you are getting a message saying not supported. No worries; help is here.

To provide you with better assistance, please answer the following questions:

  • When did you notice the issue started?
  • Could you please provide me with the case number the Google support team provided you?
  • How long ago did you own Chromecast devices?
  • Could you please let me know the make and model of your cameras?
  • Could you please check if there are wireless interference between your Chromecast devices and your router, like walls and floors, nearby WiFi networks, other electronics, cordless phones, baby monitors, microwaves, Bluetooth devices, and wireless video equipment?
  • Can you describe the status of each one of the Chromecast devices LED lights?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your environment, such as a change in Wi-Fi network or recent outages?
  • What is the make and model of the mobile device you're using to set up your Chromecast devices and cameras?

In the meantime, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Remove the Google Home app from your mobile device.
  2. Reboot the WiFi network:
  • Unplug the WiFi router from the power source for 2 minutes. Ensure that the router's lights turn off completely when unplugged. Some routers have backup battery packs, so the customer needs to disconnect the battery packs as well to ensure that the router is completely turned off.
  • After 2 minutes, plug the router back into its power source.
  1. Reboot your Chromecast devices:
  • Unplug the power cable from the Chromecast device.
  • Leave it unplugged for one minute.
  • Plug the power cable back in.
  1. Install the Google Home app on your mobile device.
  2. Check that your cameras and the Chromecast devices are in the same home structure in the Home app.
  3. Use the Google Assistant to command, “Hey Google, sync all my devices.”
  4. When Google finishes syncing your devices, it will let you know all your devices are synced.
  5. Use the Google Assistant and command, “Hey Google, play (camera name) on (Chromecast device name).”.

Please let me know how it goes.

Best regards,

Virna
