I have been a user of a Chromecast device for years. Today, I was unable to cast as usual. I factory reset the device and have been trying to add the Chromecast to Google Home.
After getting through most of setup, includig entering the code that appears on the tv, I get error msg stating that "something went wrong: Living Room TV may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone’s privacy settings. Then try again."
I have followed all the troubleshooting steps. Local network acces is enabled. AP Isolation is not enabled on my router. I tried a second iphone and had the same error. What else can I do to make this work?

I have the same problem. Tried the same steps. No solution yet. Ps tried from an android device as well
03-09-2025 12:39 PM
Me too. Worked for years with no problem. Any updates? Ive been waiting for a call back for 45 min
03-09-2025 12:40 PM
I have same problem
03-09-2025 12:50 PM
Looking at the replies here, it seems like many people around the world are having this problem today. Like others, I initially received a message when attempting to case that the chromecast was not a trusted device and may require a firmware update. That was why I tried the factory reset.

Same. I was literally using my Chromecast Audio this morning to stream Spotify.
I know they ended the product in 2019 and said they'd keep releasing updates until September 2025 but it looks like a TLS security certificate on the device finally expired and they didn't update it to a new one. Now we all throw them away because Google won't allow us to transition it to the OpenSource community and maintain it ourselves. What a waste.

Tentei:
- Desconectar o aparelho Chromecast da tomada e da TV
- Desconectar o aparelho do Wi-Fi
- Deixar desligado de tudo por alguns minutos
- Espelhar de outros serviços de streaming
E o problema permanece.

O meu aconteceu a mesma coisa, mesmas mensagens!

03-09-2025 12:36 PM
Hey my Chromecast is not working too have you find a solution?
03-09-2025 12:38 PM
I tried everything reset delete the device and add it again but nothing happened. Also I use the AI to know what is the mistake but I don't have any answer. It happened to me about 10 minutes ago suddenly with no reason
03-09-2025 12:43 PM
Hola!
03-09-2025 12:22 PM
Same mine...el motivo? Google is not able to do updates without destroying something else..
03-09-2025 12:23 PM
Me pasa lo mismo. Hoy andaba perfecto. Y ahora error de autenticación.
03-09-2025 12:17 PM

I have a Chromecast Audio I have been using for years. It has always been setup in the same place.
We haven't used it as much as we used to but this afternoon I decided I wanted to stream some music. Although Spotify offered it as a device for casting it could not connect (this was from my phone). I tried several times. Spotify on my Chromebook couldn't see the Chromecast Audio.
So I reset the Chromecast Audio - pressing the reset button so the LED cycled white/amber (flashing)/white (steady).
Then I tried to add it to Home using the app on my phone. I get the error shown in the attached sccreenshot.
I have tried 3 times to do this and get the same message each time. The link offered doesn't seem to suggest any solution.

Have the same problem, yet where is the support on this one?
03-09-2025 10:41 AM
Same here. It seems they shut down the older Chromecasts around 6 pm CET. Got the same problem all of a sudden on one second generation Chromecast and three Chromecasts audio. Our whole video/audio set up is gone.
03-09-2025 10:48 AM
Same issue here, reinstalling Home app, rebooting Chromecast or internet is not helping. Please find a fix
03-09-2025 11:15 AM
It happened to me today with my Chromecast 2nd gen. I hope it's not permanent
03-09-2025 11:24 AM
Thanks for the quick replies. Glad it's not just me but I hope they fix it otherwise I have an amp and ceiling mounted speakers which will be redundant.
03-09-2025 11:49 AM
Same for me, I have 3 chromecast audios that have stopped working completely, can't authenticate to set up after a reset, no, changing networks, rebooting router, clearing cache on home app, did not work
03-09-2025 11:36 AM
Hi, I've been using my chromecast for years with little issue. Tonight it suddenly disappeared from my apps (like Netflix, Chrome browser etc.) and was listed as unavailable in Google Home. I've tried every single troubleshooting method several times:
- rebooting wifi (waiting 1 minute or longer)
- rebooting chromecast (waiting 1 min or longer)
- force stopping, then uninstalling / reinstalling google home
- reset chromecast to factory settings
When I reset it to factory settings, google home will find the device and attempt to connect, however the number it is trying to connect to is slightly different. Let's say it asks if I want to connect to Chromecast1234, which is what shows on my TV, it will then attempt to connect to Chromecast1234.b, (including the comma there at the end). Then it will say that it cannot communicate with that number. Going through my wifi and trying to connect there also does nothing: it says it connects with no wifi.
I have literally tried everything in all the forums. I believe it's the 2nd Gen chromecast only because the reset button is a tiny button sitting flush with the device on the edge of the device, not a big button on the back or anything.
Can anyone help?
03-09-2025 11:38 AM
I have good the same
03-09-2025 11:43 AM
Same for me. Hope google acknowledge this issue soon
03-09-2025 04:33 PM
Same here.
03-09-2025 06:00 PM
I've tried the exact same methods and got the same result. Seems to either be a firmware issue or they're phasing out the gen 2 without prior warning which I doubt. Hopefully it'll be fixed and they're aware if it. We all need to just report it so they can investigate.
03-09-2025 09:39 PM
Same here
03-09-2025 10:33 PM
This is 99% my exact same experience tonight. Hope Google will provide an update soon.
03-09-2025 10:37 PM
Exactly the same for my gen 2 and my CC audio. Let's wait...
03-10-2025 06:33 PM
2 of mine did the same too and every trouble hoot method failed! Not happy! On hold waiting to talk to support now.
03-10-2025 09:49 PM
Same for me!
03-09-2025 10:30 AM
Casting from VLC, Pocket Casts, or SomaFM worked great. But Google Home stopped connecting so no volume control. I reset the device to add it again and I'm getting an error: We couldn't authenticate your Chromecast Audio.
Is this device no longer supported?
03-09-2025 10:33 AM
I get the same issue with my chromecast mid cast, an i get the same error after resetting and trying to reconnect
