I get the same error after reset, that they cant accept the device.
Im in Jutland, Denmark, and i am using Chromecast model NC2-6A5 (i think its a gen 2)
We also have a Chromecast Ultra, which works fine - so it seems to be an older gen problem??
03-09-2025 12:27 PM
Hi Julie
I can’t find it in the Google Home app anymore..
03-09-2025 01:36 PM
Samme problem her.

I have the same issue. After factory resetting it it can’t reconnect. Says the firmware is untrusted
Copenhagen Denmark. Model NC2-6A5 also:/

Hi Julie,
I am using an NC2-6A5 currently I have the device offline right now. I had another device that has been offline and I plugged it in and that one is streaming now. But it is not added to my Home app.

My gen 1 still works, but gen 2 won't
03-10-2025 08:34 AM
One of my devices is still working.
The other two started to fail yesterday by 19:00 GMT.
03-10-2025 09:23 AM
Yes how to fix
03-14-2025 07:04 PM
Thank you @JillG and Google. My ChromeCast is back to normal. 🙂👌

Sweden, Gen 2
Came home today, the phone showed me the Chromecast but failed to cast. Reset the device, now I find it 50% of the time, but get ”Unable to communicate with device” from both Android phone and iPad on the Home App. Restarted the devise again, my router, my phone, updated all applicable apps etc.
Someone said they rolled out a new firmware today and that made it crash, don’t know if it is true but it sucks. I requested 2 support calls but get ”I’m sorry, I cannot connect you to an agent, please create a new call request”. I now have 2 open cases… don’t ever expect to hear back from them.
03-09-2025 11:29 AM
When I try to cast from my Chromecast second generation.
I get an error message.
"The unit is unsafe
(Name of that Cc).
Could not be verified.
The issue may be old firmware"
Help with this please

All my Chromecast devices stop casting due to an authentication/ firmware error message !!!

Hi
Just now i have started to experiance there is an issue with the Gen 2 chromecast. I can not connect to it and after trying to factory reset two chromecasts I get the error that it can not be authenticated? Does anyone have a solution?
03-09-2025 11:38 AM
Same error now
03-09-2025 07:35 PM
Haven't seen a solution yet. My ultra works fine but my older ones don't.
03-12-2025 08:41 AM
I have same problem
03-09-2025 11:36 AM
Hej.
03-09-2025 11:43 AM
03-09-2025 11:33 AM
Getting error we couldn't authenticate your chromecast. Please solve this.
03-09-2025 11:47 AM
03-09-2025 11:40 AM
Bug after update 🤮
03-09-2025 11:39 AM

We are watching a movie via chrome cast 2nd generation. Suddenly it disconnected. I tried to restart the router, cell phone and cast but still issue. I default factory the setting it show we couldn't authenticate your chromecast.
Please help
03-09-2025 11:51 AM
Same in Brazil
03-09-2025 11:55 AM
Hi,
After cooking dinner we went on to the iplayer app and cast our programme only for the chromecast to not respond. It has stopped displaying our own photos and is now on a generic
I tried going in to google home but it cannot detect our chromecast, nor can it detect any chromecast on our network
We can still see the chromecast connected to our wifi, it just can't be connected to by any other device.
03-09-2025 11:54 AM
Chromecast was working just fine this morning. All of a sudden stopped casting and now when going through set up says can't authenticate device. Yes I did a factory reset and still not working. I did try getting a phone call from google but of course it just drops me as it states cant connect call. I did try calling and also got no where with google.
03-09-2025 11:57 AM
Same problem started here today with Chromecast gen 2
03-09-2025 03:18 PM - edited 03-09-2025 03:19 PM
Initially before the factory reset it indicated the firmware was out of date. Only way to view and update that is using Home app and that wont connect. Based on other complaints here, Google did something that broke this.
03-09-2025 11:53 AM
After years of good service Google Home is not connecting to Chromecast. I have reinstalled Home, rebooted the router, factory reset Chromecast but still no connection. When home searches for devices a box says Cannot authenticate Chromecast. In Settings WiFi Chromecast shows as No Internet. Can anyone help me to reconnect please? Has the C device failed do yiu think? Thanks for any and every help.

I’m having the same issue only with my iPhone, I get all the way through setup until it get to the WiFi and then tells me the TV might be set up but can’t communicate with my phone and then blanks out and I have to do it all over again
03-09-2025 12:37 PM
My chromecast was working properly until a few hours ago. Right now it's showing up an error saying it's unable to autenticate chromecast. I did several factory resets and even the basic unplug and not working yet
