What solutions or options do we have?
03-09-2025 01:56 PM
I think it will take a couple of days the solution, because this is a device that gets to end of life soon, so I don't think they will hurry to push a new firmware. Another thing is that maybee they push us to buy the newer version, the 3 and who knows the reason... Where do you live ? Just to see the country...

If you change the date on your phone back 2 days, it will reconfigure but still not be found on the network. It will display time, weather and the pictures again on your TV though.

Google announced the end of Chromecast in August of 2024: https://blog.google/products/google-nest/chromecast-history/
It looks like TLS security certificates on the devices are expiring and not being renewed by Google. Unless Google is willing to update the certificates there will now be 100 million new pieces of eWaste.
They could help us transition it to the OpenSource community and maintain it ourselves but that's up to Google.

My Google Home app is not Recognizing my device as being online. When I select it, a message pops up saying it's not on the same network as my Phone that I'm using to connect. That isn't true looking at the device shows that it is on the same connection and network as my other devices. I Have my privacy settings to allow my connections to be made. I don't know what else to do, as I've tried resetting my chromecast, my mobile device, router, turning off and on my settings, disconnecting and Recoconnecting from my network and I keep running into the same issue with errors that tell me to turn on settings I've already had on, or connect to a network I was already on.
03-09-2025 02:31 PM
Same here, it stopped working, It's impossible to autenticate when I tried resetting it
03-09-2025 02:37 PM
Yeah, I used my old android phone to see if it would work and I was told "We failed to Authenticate your Chromecast" and just links me to the google device website. Not sure why my iOS device just tells me We couldn't communicate with my device
03-09-2025 02:32 PM
Same issue on 2 Google Chromecast (old model) on 3 device. the third one, for some reason, for now it is working
03-09-2025 02:40 PM
Is it really working for you on 3rd gen? Did you do factory reset as well before its working?
03-09-2025 03:02 PM
Yeah it was working great till this morning I have had no issues much over the years with it till today the Authentication error

Just sent an e-mail to Google (chromecast-support-eu)
with subject "you bricked my Chromecast?" and many other complaining words as gift.
I expect the whole of you to do the same.
03-09-2025 03:05 PM
J'ai envoyé un mail aussi.
Le problème c'est leur manque de communication...

Venting doesn't make any sense, if anything it slows them down and makes a lot of people, simple workers just like you, miserable on a Sunday evening. You're not getting "revenge" on who you think you are.

Worked great for 5 years. i was using google TV today to cast a film. Then i tried to cast frmo netflix and there was
an odd error. So i checked internet and it suggested ......hard device reset. So idid that, and factory reset comes up on the TV that chromecastis plugged in to. Next i get the google home app on android and go to add a device to home. it see the device.... but fails at the next step with:
we couldnt authenticate your chromecast. please visit support.google.com/chromecast for help
i was casting a google TV film earlier todaty and it broke after that
I have rebooted everything, chromecast, phone, wifi router . disable voice data. Any other straws i should be grasping at? The home app will not connect to the chromecast 2nd gen.
I waited for 30 mins for google support on the phone and they said.............nothing.
Any help most appreciated 🙂

The only thing I can say is that I have the exact same problem atm! Help!
03-09-2025 02:56 PM
Same problem here and just tonight 😞
03-09-2025 02:56 PM
Yesterday my Chromecast worked fine, suddenly today Netflix could not connect. Did all the troubleshooting - unplugged Chromecast, then factory reset it, restarted phone and router, uninstalled Home App and reinstalled it. When trying to set up the Chromecast device, it connects to the wifi but then I get this message in the Home App.
Living Room TV may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your iPhone’s privacy settings. Then try again.
I have a Chromecast 2nd Gen and and iPhone 14 on iOS 18.3.1
I’ve made sure all my location and network settings are on. I’ve restarted the chrome cast twice and restarted my phone and nothing seems to work. Not sure what more there is for me to do. My local network setting is on for Google home and all my streaming apps my wifi is on and connected to the same network as my tv and chrome cast. Please help!

Same issue
03-09-2025 02:59 PM
It's a known issue, Google working to fix
03-09-2025 03:26 PM
Exactly the same here. In The Netherlands.
Has trump ruled out the whole world by a new decrete? Wouldn't be surprised about anything anymore that comes from the US.
Resetted and trying to set up again.
Authentucation failure.
03-09-2025 03:29 PM
I wondered if trump has ordered this as everywhere except USA seems to be affected
03-09-2025 08:02 PM
I am not discounting that Chump, I mean Trump, may be responsible. But, I am in the US and am having problem, too.

Same error here! The Gen 2 device is still very effective. It would be a big mistake for Google to decommission it. Please Google give an answer to the 1000s of impacted people. I was forced to see a football match on my pc!!!!
03-09-2025 03:43 PM
Oh wow really so it's a Google issue then for sure it's not just my 2nd Gen Chromecast
03-09-2025 03:54 PM
don't worry, I have 3rd generation and with the same errors
03-09-2025 03:54 PM
Tengo dos chromecast que no están funcionando. En principio me decía que el firewall no estaba actualizado, ahora me figura un error de autenticación. Lo probé todo. ¿Cómo se puede solucionar?
03-09-2025 03:57 PM
Me sucede lo mismo, y no estoy encontrando solución.
Vos pudiste resolverlo?
03-09-2025 03:59 PM
No, no pude.
03-09-2025 04:30 PM
Todos los, chromecast dejaron de funcionar que pasa google reparen este problema rapido.
03-09-2025 10:11 PM
No solucionaron nada! Estoy en Argentina, la hora local es 02:10
03-10-2025 10:00 AM
Es una muy mala accion de google, decir ahora que no restablescas el chromecast, por que no podras solucionar el problema, si el problema se dio el dia de ayer en mi caso y nadie de soporte te asistio, muy mal google
03-09-2025 04:48 PM
Did a factory reset of the Chromecast and when I tried to re-connect via the Home app I got the message "We couldn't authenticate your Chromecast."
03-09-2025 05:18 PM
Então esse que temos não serve mais ?
