Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Hola reinicie mi dispositivo ya que como no funcionaba pensé que era algún error por favor necesito asesoría para volver activar mi dispositivo, agradecida 

Parece un fallo global, un error con los certificados de seguridad solo para la 2nd Gen curiosamenta la 1st Gen funciona 😕

Well oops.  I have already factory reset the Chromecast that suddenly stopped working, since this was the fix for many issues in the past. Looking forward to a fix.

When troubleshooting, first thing is reboot. Second is factory reset. Too late. A notification in the home app would have been helpful. What's my options now that my devices have been factory reset?

Need som help regarding Chromecast

Have been using them for years now but within 2 days at least 4 have stopped working.

I have tried to factory reset two of them but during the setup is says connecter but only to to can't connect to Chromecast.

Have also tried to restart the router. Nothing seems to work....this simply can't be an coincidence.

Its a bug. The certificate is expired and google is working on the problem. Same issue with my 3 Chromecast Audios. 

Google made a statement and this is a known google issue. No one with a 2nd gen can use them right now. This link explains in more detail and if you like me reset your device to fix it, there is advice on how to remedy that issue. Good Luck!

Of course MOST of us have factory reseted the device.

I already factory reset because that is what google told me to for troubleshooting. I then found out it was an error affecting everyone. What can I do? This is a rude way to try to get people to buy the new version.

I have 3 Chromecast devices that are not working since yesterday afternoon. I rebooted one and did not work. All show offline in Home app. I factory reset one and can't reconnect to Home app as it indicates "Can't Authenticate". My account shows 2 cases being worked on but no info as to status to get my 3 devices up and running again for streaming of video & audio.

Please advise ASAP as many of home's entertainment is Google operated w/devices & HUB.

Come on Google this isn't good enough. You tell us 3 hours ago not to reset our Chromecast yet online that's the first thing it tells you to do. If mine is broken from doing a reset I expect a whole new Chromecast in the mail thanks 

What message appears in your screen? I did everything already. 

I know. It really sucks the Lama’s ass. I’ve tried just about everything.. No Google recommendations from me!

Is something going on with chrome cast as mines has stopped working too..reset and now wont setup again

Yo también lo restableci de fabrica, ya que es lo primero que te dije Google que debes hacer. Espero que Google se encargue de resolver este desastre y que mi Chromecast funcione, pese a haberlo reseteado.

I can't get chromecast to connect to router. It's been working fine for years but suddenly it stops connecting. I've tried turning chromecast and router on and off. Please help in advance, thanks Carsten.

The chrome cast is not working world wide for the 2nd generation 

I have the same problem. it was working fine for years but from yesterday it suddenly stopped.

I’ve reset my chromecast, updated my phone, updated my apps, made sure my local network access is on, and I still receive this message:

Living room tv may be set up, but we could not communicate with it from your iPhone. Make sure that you have enabled local network access in your privacy settings and try again. 

Local network access is definitely on. i don’t know how else to solve this issue. My phone used to connect no problem. Chrome cast light is white, both devices on same wifi

I face the Same issue.

Three daYs ago Chromecast was Not reachable (YouTube App Said - maxbe Firmware) 

But even factory reset does Not Help.

Wirh Android i am Not able to reachable WLAN selection tab. Wirh iPhone i rrach until WLAN should bei connected but then Progress Stopps.

Hoe that there will BE Help Outside

How, exactly, will we be informed if we factory reset the Chromecast. 

I am sure many many people did so because we were following the Help screen list of what to do to resolve the issue.

vai voltar ao normal !

Feche o house e todos os aplicativos após a alteração da data e tente novamente 

Da para configurar o chromecast novamente mas a imagem não passa.
