If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

I've reseted my Chromecast to factory settings and had difficulties re-installing. Here's what I did. I changed the date to pre the 9th of march. Let's say the second of march. I started the installation process and it worked. After the Chromecast was back on line. I received the fix. And now it is working again. Don't forget to reset your date to the present day. Good

I have removed the device from Google Home and did the factory reset on the device in a attempt to fix the connection problem. Will really appreciate guidance on how to solve this issue.

Thanks for the comms, was going crazy trying to fix last night and of course I factory reset. Assumed it was my old tv and thought I needed to replace! If this thread started Monday though, why did I just get an email? Would have saved a lot of effort on Thursday had I known.

Thank you, my Chromecast second gen is back. And I can stream again. I see in the technical info the update/fix. And it seems that the quality is upgraded to 4k. I hope anyone else's problems are fixed or gonna be fixed very soon. The Google "hockey puck" is one of the best products ever made. Simple, easy to use and smart.

I rang your support team to enquire about the problem and they didn't even know about the outage of the chromecast generation 2. He suggested a factory reset to me. And now
Because this message about the outage was only received today the 14th of March 6 days after the system failure, I tried to reconnect by doing a factory reset. What happen now for me?

It’s good to hear that Google is working on it.
Two comments from my side:
1. I fully understand that products become outdated over time, and at some point, it’s reasonable to stop expecting support and instead upgrade to something new (after all, who still uses floppy disks these days?).
2. I own a Chromecast Audio, which is connected to my supersonic heavy receiver from the old days. These receivers were incredibly expensive, and by using the Chromecast, I can play Spotify via Google Home. As far as I know, Chromecast is the only device that enables this setup. If it stops working, I would be forced to buy a new receiver—an expensive change. That’s why I really hope Google continues to support Chromecast Audio and fixes this issue.

I use the CCA to cast hires music through PLEX, because even a newer AVR requires an analog input for the 2nd or 3rd zones.

The devices update unsupervised, so, reading between the line, I'm assuming that, although we can't connect to them via the home app etc., they're still, hopefully, online... I also assume this is why factory resetting them is such an issue. If you factory reset, they can't go back online until we connect to them....however, we currently can't, so they'll be stuck in limbo until google give instructions on how to fix that more manually

I recently purchased a Chromecast because my new TV doesn’t have one built in.
I usually use Videostream to cast to my TV, but like many others, I’ve found it’s no longer working. However, I discovered that VLC still works perfectly for casting!

Yo reestableci de fabrica y consegui volver a dejarlo como si no lo hubiera hecho, simplemente cambia la fecha del tfno. Volvi a una anterior al dia 10/3/2025, empareje el chromecast y volvi a poner la fecha actual. Funciona!. Sigo sin poder enviar contenido pero al menos recibire el parche o actualización de ustedes. I really wanna know whats the dificulty in sending every chromecast user an alert notification saying "do not reset this s#it". Chromecast 2nd gen is always losing connection, it is almost instinctive to owners reset and reinstall. What a mess you've done here.
