Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

And what if my devices won't connect to my wifi network? Should I factory reset them? The person I chatted with to get help was not helpful at all so maybe someone here can help.

Why is this chromecast device communicating with Google servers in the first place? You should offer update on the home app and give users the option to push these updates to the device. There can only be malicious reasons behind this.

If you have factory reset your Chromecast, you can set your phone’s date back to March 8, 2025, and potentially proceed with the setup. When you are done setting up the Chromecast, you can correct your phone’s date.

That is great but can you tell us the new firmware version numbers? How will I know it has been updated, do I need to do anything my end?

Is there a way to expedite the fix on a device? I'm expecting company tonight and we were planning on streaming a show premier... 😞

Muda a data do seu celular para dia 7 de março e configurei o Chromecast normal pelo home aí a nova atualização e feita automaticamente e volta funcionar normal depois só voltar a data correta no seu celular. Eu fiz deu certo

And now yep, back to work Chromecast!

Where are you in the world. Ours still fires up can’t cast but you see it in the network as far as I’m aware. You’d think it would be a case if one came back they all came back. Any way to force it to look for an update?

I had to unplug from power and Wi-Fi a couple times and then saw the update was coming in... Works now. Good luck!

Still nothing here in Scotland for my Chromecast 2 it’s sitting showing it’s picture does this mean it’s connected? I have went into my hub settings and it shows Chromecast connected but still getting this certification problem.

Oui effectivement j'ai fait une réinitialisation d'usine  de mon téléviseur  alors j'espere que vous allez me donner des directives pour remédier  au problème 

Waiting for the update for those who factory reset as per usual recommendation for G products when running into an issue ... apparently that wasn't the answer for this issue ...

When will the update happen in which timezone? Because 1 of my 3 devices has been updated and works again, but the other 2 not...
