Update 3/17/25:

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Read the pinned status update at the top of this page.

Since you've already done a factory reset, you'll need to do this:

After helping thousands of users here on this forum, I just now received the update myself. All good again. Psyched!

Also, I can confirm that power cycling (plugging/unplugging) seemed to provoke the update.

si le Chromecast était à nouveau détecté, il suffit de le garder branché sur secteur (pas forcément sur l’appareil avec lequel il doit jouer) ; la mise à jour s’est faite en mon absence

For those that factory reset their device.  I set my android phone manually to an earlier date than last sunday...i chose march 6th.  Then I turned on my TV and chromecast and used google home to try and configure it...IT WORKED...you will be able to link it to your home wifi and then it did an update and long story short...IT'S WORKING AGAIN!  Just remember to reset your phone to the current date and time.

I tried this didn't work

This is most definitely a worldwide problem, I'm in South Africa, but I've seen Scotland, England, and lots of strange languages on this thread, so I'm guessing it's affecting 10's or 100's of millions of users worldwide! Shame on you Google, you're as useless as that orange turd with his mail order bride running your **bleep**hole of a country, yip the **bleep**ty old US of A!

I already tried the factory reset.  What else did you expect the tens of thousands of users to do after the dongle failed?  Please advise. I hope you have a fix for this for those of us who performed the factory reset.

Thanks 👍 👍 👍

Note that you need to restart your device for the update to take effect. My CC Audio is back in business!

Restart it even if U factory reset it

If you factory reset it try factory resetting it again now, just did the same with my Gen 2 Chromecast and it's working again.

I had done a factory reset on my chromecast to try and fix issues.

I have just changed the date on my phone  back to Saturday the 8th of March. I was then able to reinstall and get the latest update.

It's now working as it should.
