Is this impacting JBL Link speakers as well? My 3 chromecast audios are all offline and still haven't received the fix, but also my JBL Link 10 speaker that supports chromecast casting.

I’m disabled and in my haste, I can’t recall if I did a factory reset. How can I tell?

You normally do a factory reset by long-pressing the button on the Chromecast itself. Do you remember doing that? 🙂
03-14-2025 09:00 AM
I had to unplug and reconnect my device before the update began installing. All's well after that
03-14-2025 09:28 AM
Interesting. Are u in the U.S.? I plugged and unplugged all last night still no update 😀

Please let us know when this first deployment phase is completed from your point of view. I didn't factory reset my chromecast, but it doesn't seem to be connected to the network anymore. I have a real doubt that this fix will work for me.

If you didn't factory reset your chromecast, it should still be connected to your Wi-Fi network, even if the Google Home app (misleadingly) says that it's "Offline". It's only "offline" from the app's point of view because it can't connect to it due to the authentication bug.
If you really want to make sure, you should be able to go into your router's setup page and see if the Chromecast is listed among the connected devices.

I think that Google & Co are becoming way too entitled. DO NOT TOUCH the hardware which I own. If I want to update the firmware then I will do so. Get the F*** out of my devices.

Okay, so you don't want the firmware fix that they started rolling out yesterday? 🙂

Johnny Smarty, do you want to work on your reading comprehension, or do I need to spell out the semantics of my previous message? Or maybe you are just too young to understand what I was saying, being addicted to algo feeds and auto updates, considering this as "the new normal"...

Is there any further updates? The Chromecast are the main device for entertainment in my home

What is the ETA for fix if a factory reset was already performed on the device?

I have reset my Chromecast. What do I do then? For how long time do you think this is going to be broken?

Finally FIXED
Just got the update and now everything works great!
Turn on the device and keep it connected to the network. You will see the update message soon.
For those who did a factory reset, use the trick to set the date to March 8th or earlier on your mobile device (you can change it back later) and reconnect (add as a new device) the Chromecast to Wi-Fi to get the update.
It's Friday! 😎

03-14-2025 09:29 AM
Hi ! Before reading this message I've already performed the reset....
What can I do to make it work ?
Thanks for your answer ☺️

Paciencia.

Go back to the top of this page. Look at the second paragraph.
Do not factory reset your device
03-14-2025 09:29 AM
What can I do if I did a factory reset? And the chromecast isn’t available in the Google Home App?
03-14-2025 09:51 AM
For all the factory reset people who are freaking out and asking "what do I do now?":
1) Temporarily set the date on your smartphone (or tablet) to March 8 or earlier.
2) Use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast. You still won't be able to cast, and the device will be grayed out in the Home app, but that's ok. Also, you can change your phone's date/time setting back to Auto now.
3) Sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed.
Supposedly it's going to be a phased rollout, so it could take as long as several days for the firmware update to hit your device. Patience.
03-14-2025 09:28 AM
How long do I have to wait please tell me something about it
03-14-2025 09:31 AM
Ok so it has been several days now - I am fully reliant on my Chromecast devices as I stream all content. When the f*** are you going to tell all of us what to do to get our casting back?
03-14-2025 09:33 AM
I already did factory reset, it’s not my problem that the device has factory reset button !!!!
03-14-2025 09:34 AM
If you have already factory reset your devices and are now unable to complete setup, setting up the Chromecast with the phone's date manually set to before March 9, 2025. This worked for me. Then leave the device alone while google pushes out the new certificate.
03-14-2025 09:35 AM
Easy fix. Just do this...

After adjusting my date on my phone, re-adding the chromecast audio, changing my date back on my phone I am able to cast to my google audio without issue. Not sure if my device just picked up the updated certificate as it connected back on the network or if I just have good luck in this moment. Time will tell if it holds over the next few days of casting. Good luck!

Thank you, that worked for me 👍

This really helped. Thank you!
