If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

How will I be notifed about solution? My 2nd gen. Chromecast doesn't connect. Please contact to me and explain what to do. It isn't comfortable for My 2 years son watching from smartphone.

Hi - I am still unable to activate my Chrome Cast.
I did perform the factory reset however I just tried to set up the chrome cast again with the up to date google home app but it keeps saying something went wrong and does not connect to the wifi.

Holy cow... this impacted MILLIONS of people. In the meantime, I hooked up my old Apple TV with optical output. I'd forgotten how seamlessly it connects to iOS without the glitch that Chromecast has with iOS.
I no longer need my Chromecast Audio. You actually helped me "Upgrade" to stuff I already own.

First off, thanks to the team who fixed this issue my 2nd gen Chromecast. It's now working and I love using it.
Sadly though, it now has a new (perhaps resurface of an old bug) problem where even though I have YouTube premium on my phone (working as expected with no ads), when send to Chromecast, I get advertisements).
It wasn't doing this when it was working before your latest fix.
Is this the new normal?. I hope not ..

Not sure why, but as of now there are no ads appearing when viewing YouTube premium on Chromecast.

Ya se me instaló la actualización! Encendí la tele y salió automáticamente. En la app de Google Home me aparecía en gris la TV como si no estuviera conectada, pero no importó.

Bonjour,
Depuis hier, j'essaye de caster un film. J'utilise l'application Google home et une chromecast branchée à mon téléviseur. De l'application Google home, ma chromecast est bien détectée, c'est lorsque je fais connexion à la chromecast que mon téléphone passe automatiquement en 5G et de ce fait, n'aboutit pas à la connexion puisqu'il faut que ça passe par le Wi-Fi. J'ai donc un message d'erreur qui apparaît « impossible de communiquer avec votre chromecast". J'ai tenté de l'obliger à passer par le Wi-Fi en enlevant les données mobiles mais rien n'y fait, il ne passe pas par le Wi-Fi donc le message d'erreur est identique. Lorsqu'il essaie de se connecter, j'ai un message en fond qui me dit "qu'il est possible que mon téléphone se déconnecte du Wi-Fi lors de la configuration" c'est exactement ce qu'il se passe mais il n'indique pas la procédure qui permettrait à mon téléphone de ne pas se déconnecter du Wi-Fi. Je suis bien en Wi-Fi. Je me suis déjà connectée à cette chromecast il y a plusieurs mois. J'ai eu Free au téléphone qui me dit qu'il n'y a pas de souci de son côté. Je suis connectée à d'autres appareils en Wi-Fi sans problème. Avez-vous une idée pour débloquer ma situation ?

Fyi to all: If you performed a factory reset, you can still re-attach it to your "home". This will allow you to receive the new firmware with the updated CA certificate installed. Here's how: Using your device (e.g.: Android phone or whatever you have the Home App on), change the date to March 1st. Then add the new device to your home per normal. It will find it as a new device and it will connect to the network and internet again. Then it will get the new firmware when it rolls out. You're welcome 🙂

Hi, all my Google Chromecasts are fixed today. I had to go to GoogleHome to reset and update my devices. I did not factory reset mine when the problem started. Thank you for solving and please do not let this kind of issue ever happen again.

I spend hours trying to reconnect my Chromecast and on the phone with my internet provider : at least you could have made an announcement on the google home app. I pay for streaming services and now with this problem I’m paying for nothing, I’m not getting a new tv. At least you should know if an update is coming or if we should buy a new generation chromecast.
